Harold CRIMLISK (41738, Private)

b. 1897, Filey  d. 27th Sep. 1917 (aged 20)

 

            Lived at 10, John St. and had recently moved to 21, Victoria Avenue.  Harold enlisted in Beverley in October 1916, presumably around his 19th Birthday (this was average conscription age) into ‘C’ Company, 6th Battalion, Yorkshire Regt. (Green Howards) with Pte. Dixon Overfield (another casualty).  Before entering the war Harold worked at his father’s fishmongers shop on John St. as well as at C. Littlewoods grocery shop, and had two older brother also serving in the armed forces.

          He went to France in the Summer of 1917 and was then moved to the Arras region (Belgium) where he was killed in action during the Battle of Polygon Wood; Harold is buried in Cement House Cemetery.
