William FARLING (M2/103274, Private)

One of
the last casualties to die in the Great War, William died whilst he was
stationed in Cologne, Germany in an accident. He had grown up on Victoria Avenue, with his mother
Elizabeth and had been conscripted in 1916 and sworn into the Royal Army
Service Corps, where after training he was sent to ‘R’ Anti-Aircraft Battery,
then in France. He served there for the next two years
without being wounded, but three months after the armistice died whilst he was
based in Cologne. He was buried in Cologne Southern Germany
Cemetery.
