FERRAR, Arthur (304754, Rifleman)

Arthur FERRAR (304754, Rifleman)

b. Filey    d. Fri. 5th Jul. 1918

Like Robert Colley, Arthur was an accomplished marksman and had achieved the highest award of marksmanship available to a private soldier; the rank of ‘Rifleman’.  He was therefore attached to a specific rifle battalion, the 1st/5th London Regt., otherwise known as the 1st Artists Rifles and on reaching France was sent into action, possibly undertaking sniper work due to his exact aim.  He lived at 10, Victoria Avenue, a street which suffered badly during the First World War, wit two other casualties coming from it; Tom Cappleman died just a fortnight before Arthur.

Arthur died in the region of Arras, France and is remembered on the Arras Memorial.
