David GASH (89774, Gunner)

b. 1897, Filey  d. Tue. 26th Nov. 1918 (aged 31)

 

          David was a Filey man who had left and moved to Hull when he married his wife Henrietta in the mid-1900’s although the rest of his family stayed; this included his parents Edward and Mary Gash, his brother Edward, and his sister and brother-in-law Albert and Elizabeth Stonehouse.  He enlisted in Hull near to his home address of Grimston Terrace, Clifton Street into the Royal Garrison Artillery just before conscription was made legal in late 1915 and served in France for the majority of the war at No. 4 Depot, RGA a major resupplying point for the heavily used artillery.

          Towards the end of the war, he was moved to the Army Labour Corps and served as 484677, Private D. Gash until he was badly wounded.  David was invalided back to Hull, where he died a fortnight after the armistice and was buried in Hull cemetery.
