George Edward RUSSUM (Apprentice / Cadet)

George Edward RUSSUM (Apprentice / Cadet)

b. 1901, Rotherham        d. Mon. 6th May 1918 (aged 17)

The youngest casualty listed on the Filey Memorial, it is still unclear as to why George is commemorated there, as his father, Edward Russum is shown as living at 22, Clifton Bank, Rotherham, and George had also enlisted there.

It is known that he joined the Mercantile Marines, and was being trained on the S.S. Sandhurst, a London based vessel when e was unexplainably killed.  Unfortunately no details are available for this, and additionally no commemoration details are known so George’s death remains a mystery.
