Edward Sidney WARD (1323, Private)

b. 1894, Filey  d. Tue. 19th Sep. 1916 (aged 22)

 

            Edward was another of the Filey casualties to have joined up as part of the original thirteen in August 1914 into the 5th Battalion, Yorkshire Regt. (Green Howards) (later 1st/5th Battalion).  He had survived the heavy fighting at Ypres, and had been present during the crater raid at Petit-Bois in May 1916 that Harold Brown had led and been decorated for but in September 1916 was killed in action whilst the battalion was serving on the Somme and buried in Dantzig Alley British Cemetery.
