Reginald Bernard WEST (56665, Private)

b. Stanground, Northants.      d. Thu. 31st Oct. 1918

 

          A member of the Hunts. Cyclists who had enlisted in Peterborough in 1914, Reg had married a Filey girl and begun to put down roots there until his battalion was disbanded and he was sent to the 17th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers (1st South East Lancashires) in Belgium.  He survived much of the trench warfare throughout 1917 that his comrades did not, including Passchendaele and died in the action of Tiegham just 12 days before the war ended.  He was laid to rest in Vichte Military Cemetery.
