The Atlantic Ocean, June 26, 2000 — Aviation Ordnance men load a Mark-83 inert bomb onto an aircraft on board USS George Washington (CVN 73), June 26, 2000. Inert bombs, always painted blue, do not explode but are used to mark the proficiency of the training of the air crews. They are also used to provide practice in handling and loading. George Washington and Carrier Air Wing Seventeen are currently conducting training exercises in the Puerto Rican operating area in preparation for a scheduled six-month Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf deployment.
