Past Obsession: Firebrand
Firebrand is the little demon from Ghouls & Ghosts, Gargoyles Quest, and Demon's Crest. I've only actually played Demon's Crest for the SNES in which he is the main character, but my brother has played one of the Ghouls & Ghosts games so I will post more info about that later.
In Demon's Crest Firebrand is a convict. In the game you start out imprisoned with a demon dragon about to tear you apart and bathe in your bloody innards. You fly around able to hover at any height and move about at that height but unable to fly up. This causes you to wonder why he can hover indefinitely but not fly up a foot to break the damn pot with his fire breath that he can't aim.
Anyways, Demon's Crest is a wonderfully done game with beautiful graphics, enchanting music, and an awesome atmosphere. Firebrand's silent scrawny musclyness sets it all off perfectly and even his giant forehead helps the mood.
