Anime (Pictures from left- Rurouni Kenshin, Scryed, Saiyuki, Weiss Kruez)

Another hobby that takes up a lot of my time is collecting Japanese animation.  I have a good collection of licensed DVDs and VHS tapes, and a giant collection of "fansubbed" anime in various computer media formats.  For a long time I tried to keep a list of my collections.  But then I got a cable modem and a Sony Viao computer with a big hard drive and a DVD burner and now I am piling it up faster than I can list it, much less watch it!  I picture myself someday, toothless in a nursing home, finally catching up on all my anime viewing!  Maybe by then I will have learned to understand the Japanese language.

If you are interested in sampling some anime, drop me an email and let me know what sort of stories you like.  I'll give you some leads.  If you want to download anime, the site I recommend is Anime Suki.  Follow their link to download Bittorrent.  Once you have done that, all you have to do is click on one of the files listed at Anime Suki and a window should pop open asking where you want to save the file.  Choose a place and select save, and Bittorrent will automatically open and start the download.  A lot of new users are confused and think they have to open Bittorrent and are stymied by the fact that they can't find it.  But it is automatic, so just follow the directions above and you should be okay.  If you have problems, there is a Yahoo! Group for Bittorrent Help that can give you better directions.  You will need a high speed modem for this, though, as the files can be quite large.  You will also want to keep your Windows Media Player updated and to search for and download the proper codecs for the files you are downloading.  Common ones include XVID and Ogg/Vorbis.  You can find sites to download these on Google.  If you prefer not to use Windows Media Player, you can use DIVX, a free player you can download.  If you are interested in downloading anime music videos, I suggest you visit Anime Music Videos.  You can download these on a dial up modem if you have lots of time on your hands.

I'm a member of a whole sack full of Yahoo! Groups where we talk about the series we enjoy and share fan art and fan fiction.  This hobby has put me in touch with people all over the world and has been a great way to make new friends online.
