Star Trek A/U

Premise: The Starship Maverick is made up of a ragtag crew that basically consists of the problem cases from all other starships for various reasons. Some officers just plain don’t like authority, some are a little too weird and some are a little insane. No one else wants to put up with them, especially not together, but they can’t be discharged from the Federation because, despite their attitudes, they are truly some of the best the Federation has to offer. Captain Roswell is a new Captain, and to test her worth and to give her a taste of what she can expect to encounter out in the final frontier, the Federation has decided to stick her in charge of these renegades to see what she can make of them.  They send Quinn and the Maverick off on a routine mission to explore a section of space to gather data. At first, the crew doesn’t really trust Quinn, unsure of what to make of her and her obvious young age and what they subsequently assume lack of experience. However when the routine mission goes horribly wrong, they must find a way to trust one another and their leader if they want to survive.

Quinn Roswell

Rank: Captain

Duty: Captain of the Starship Maverick

Background: The youngest captain of a starship, not to mention one of the very few female captains, in the history of the Space Federation. She takes her role as leader very seriously but also knows how to have a little fun. Quinn has to be careful not to mess up since she is always being challenged due to her young age. However, she knows more about starships and space than most others, having been born and raised on a privately owned starship of her parents’. She earns the respect of her crew because she listens to them and instead of blindly following the Federation’s orders. She has the reputation as sort of a renegade, doing what she sees fit in the situation instead of what the rule book says, though because of her excellent commendations made by her crew, no one has punished her for it.

Deidra Mathony

Rank: Lieutenant JG

Duty: Navigator

Background: Though she isn’t very good at finding out where she is specifically, Deidra has the uncanny knack to find things or places, or get herself back to where she started, no matter how lost she gets. Unfortunately, she’s also fairly absent minded, spacing out during lulls in missions or when just orbiting a planet where the rest of the crew is exploring. Truth be told, she’s extremely adept at finding ways in or around things that might otherwise be considered impassable. Still, most captains don’t allow her down planet side simply because she has the tendency to wander off without telling anyone while exploring. Deidra is what people call a dreamer, always looking on the bright side of even the darkest conditions and thinking up imaginary places where she’d rather be.  She’s also one of the few crewmembers that isn’t human, but instead an alien of an unpronounceable race that lives in some corner of the galaxy. The last Captain of the Maverick picked her up while out investigating an SOS in deep space. Seems as though through some space-time anomaly, she was sling-shot across the galaxy through a wormhole so she is not entirely sure where she comes from, or how to get back there.

Lore Weaver

            Rank: Lieutenant Commander

            Duty: Ship’s Doctor

Background: Extremely cynical despite her profession. It’s probably due to the fact that the crew consists of probably the most accident-prone people in the entire galaxy and she has to stitch at least one of them up every time that they come back from an away mission. She has more medical experience in the field than any other Federation medical officer, and the fact that the others seem to have nor regard for their own well being have finally caused Lore to lose her loving bedside manner. She’ll patch people up, but when she does, she constantly gripes about all the things she does for them and still gets no respect. Quite often she is dragged on, despite loud protesting, on expeditions because they never know just when they will need medical assistance. Despite her constant complaining, Lore is a good shot with a phaser and goes by the saying to never leave a man behind. She has a strong sense of preservation, both for herself and her crewmates and will help whoever is injured, no matter who they are.

Caprice Damaret

Rank: Lieutenant

Duty: Weapons Officer

Background: Almost a little too eager to unleash the photon torpedoes when threatened. She’s always enthusiastic about her job, keeping the starship up to date on all tactical weapons and constantly pestering the Captain to allow her to test them out on uninhabited planets, though honestly she really doesn’t care whether it’s inhabited or not as long as she gets to drag out her toys to play with. She isn’t all that great at self-defense, relying on either her phaser or her fellow officers for help. The previous captain didn’t allow her off the ship for the most part, not trusting her and her itchy trigger finger. Caprice, despite her eagerness to shoot first and ask questions later is an invaluable source of information since she is usually on the ship researching things on the computers. She is also a good sense of character, despite her jumpiness and can usually tell right off the bat if someone has hostile intentions or not.

Caden O’Connell

Rank: Commander

Duty: Chief Engineer

Background: Even though she’s terrible with computers, she’s very good at quick fixes and patching things. Even though she’s not good with electronics, she is good at mechanics. Caden can usually be found in the engine room, crammed into some small space in one of the engine tinkering around with it to make it go faster than the safety regulations for the Federation dictate. She is also usually dragged on planet expeditions since she is fairly adept at survival and an excellent marksman should the need arrive. She’s not very good at taking directions, especially when it comes to her precious engines. She let’s the captain do what they want to the rest of the starship as long as they leave her to her own devices when it comes to the mechanics of the ship. Caden is also fairly laid back and calm when it comes to dire situations, but has been known to join Caprice in fights at the Officer’s Club back on Earth. She also has the tendency to be extremely distrustful of people in the higher ranks, thinking they’re all bought off prissy know-it alls that think they know what’s best even if they haven’t had the experience.

Devin Hesketh

Rank: Ensign

Duty: Chief of Security

Background: Sort of dark and moody, she is constantly on Caden and Caprice’s cases about tinkering with the ship because they provide a gap in security for anyone to come in and get them. She’s highly suspicious of almost anyone new on board, which includes the new captain and whenever Caprice, Caden, and Deidra are seen together it usually means trouble for her. Devin is constantly badgered about people taking extended shore leave and acts as a gofer whenever someone is missing from the ship. She doesn’t like going on missions very much since she feels she ends up doing more work than most others because of all the possible breaches in security every time they leave the safety of homeport. She is also very paranoid about becoming a “red shirt”, or someone that will be sent into a dangerous situation where she will most likely be killed since she has little value.  Devin is also a sort of babysitter, forced to follow the other troublesome crew members around to bail them out of trouble whenever, and it’s not if, but when, they get in trouble.

Indigo Dionne

Rank: Commander

Duty: Second in Command

Background: Probably the least happy about the change in command on the Maverick. Indigo was a close friend of the previous Captain, and while she is happy her friend moved up in the chain of command to Admiral, she’s still rather mad that she now has to take orders from someone who is considerably younger and less experienced. She hangs around mostly on her own on the bridge or with Devin patrolling the ship. She’s not all that eager to place herself in harms way, but will do so if her friends and crew are in danger. She’s almost a motherly figure to them because she is an authority figure and is the type to worry about them constantly. However, given the ground crew’s knack for finding trouble, her worry is warranted in most cases. She also loves being in command and the others jokingly accuse of her of having a “God Complex”.
