This house, built in 1844 by Jack Swan was a saloon and a sailor's boarding house for about two years. Minstrel shows and dramatic performances began in 1847 at the close of the Mexican War when soldiers persuaded Jack Swan to permit them to convert the building into the Union Theater.More about the Theatre at the sites of A good picture of the Theatre can be found at |

This Victorian home was built in 1860 by whaling captain Manuel Perry and his wife Mary de Mello Silva, of Boston. The house remained in the family until 1963 and was restored in 1967. In 1997, the Monterey History & Art Association acquired the house to host its costume collection.See also Monterey County Website.
