Casa Soberanes

Merritt House

Built during the late Mexican Period (1840s) by Rafael Estrada, half-brother of Governor Juan Alvarado. Later passed to the Soberanes family who lived there from 1860 to 1922.

Former house of Josiah Merritt, first judge of Monterey County.

Opening Hours

Casa Soberanes

Guided tours on Monday and Friday at 11:30 a.m.

Casa Serrano

Open Saturday and Sunday
from 2 to 4 PM.


Capitular Hall

Casa Serrano

Built by Guy Freeman Fling of Sonora in 1834. The original one story building has changed over the years as a second story was added and the front facade was removed.

Built by Don Florencino Serrano, an Alcade in old Monterey.
