Old Monterey Jail

The jail was built in 1854 when Monterey was the county seat and was oficially used as city jail until 1956. One of the most prominent inmates was United Farm Workers founder Cesar Chavez, who was incarcerated here for three weeks in 1970.

Today, the jail is a museum, but its future is uncertain.
