Channel Islands National Park, March 2005

On our way to Santa Cruz Island:
A first glance at the island, very brief view at a gray whale and a couple of dolphins

Our landing site at the northeast coast of Santa Cruz Island -
Scorpion Harbor, entrance to Scorpion Canyon and starting point for breathtaking hikes

Panorama, overlooking the Scorpion Harbor area

Cavern Point - first stop on the hike to Potato Harbor

It takes about one hour to get from Cavern Point to Potato Harbor.
Unfortunately, that is pretty much all one can do during a short shore leave

Bernd at Potato Harbor

On the way back to Scorpion Harbor, I took the "road"

Soon after, the "Islander" arrived and took me back to Ventura

And then, captain Alex said, "Take her into the harbor..."

Unfortunately, I only had a couple of hours. But there is so much more to see on the islands. For more information, check
Channel Islands National Park Website and
National Park Service Website.

A big "Thank You" to Island Packers!

Special thanks to the Island Packers crew, Alex, Katie and Bobby for sharing their experience and passion with me.
Thank you for a save trip, for a pleasant and educational tour of the island and for an endless supply of hot tea!

Sunset at the beach in Ventura and the Island Packers office in the evening sun -
a perfect ending of a perfect day!

Here is a short story I wrote about that day.
