I guess I should start at the very beginning. In 1997, I discovered Harper's Tale and fell in love with the game. The people were all very friendly and helpful and didn't mind that I was wandering around with a Guest character to get the feel of the game. At the time I only had access for an hour a day at the library, they were pretty strict about it so I didn't get to do much when I was on the game. Shortly after discovering HT, I moved across country and lost internet access for about 2 years. In December of 1999, I found HT again and decided to play there as much as possible. I quickly became an addict.
In January 2000, I created my first character...not Ragis. But after playing Michel for 16 days, I decided to create a second character. Hence, Ragis was born. I thought about him for a long time, I wanted a 'rider character and I knew that Michel was not the charater for it. I don't know why, but I wanted to let Michel do the things I couldn't do in real life...namely become a Master cook. And it's been wonderful. Anyway, back to R'gis...this is his page, after all.
I guess it would help to tell you who Rage was first. He began as a conglomeration of several characters from Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series. Mainly Firesong K'Treva with some An'desha, Darkwind K'Sheyna and Lady Herald Elspeth thrown in for 'flavor' since Firesong became rather bland after a while. I mean, really....one can only be perfect for so long before one starts to wear on everyone's nerves. Right? Well, from Firesong he got his looks and proclivities, from An'desha he got a hesitancy that he needed to grow out of...and still has problems with at times, from Darkwind he got his sensitivity and Elspeth gave him his sensuality. So, this is how Ragis was formed in my mind.
Ragis was born and raised in a small cothold in Keroon. His family was large, as was usual with those backwater farms, with a total of 11 children. Rage has 4 elder brothers, 2 elder sisters, 3 younger sisters and one younger brother. Smack in the middle and the only boy that didn't look like his father. What did his father look like, you ask? Well, imagine Mastersmith Fandarel from the books and you might see why he wondered about just where little Ragis came from. Brukeval was not a small person, at a few fingers over six foot and weighing in at a hefty 330 pounds of sheer muscle, brown hair, brown eyes...pretty much average in intelligence. Marevis, his wife, was rather small, light brown hair and amber colored eyes. She was only 5 foot 5 inches and weighed just over a third of her husband's bulk...around 125 pounds. And that's soaking wet! All of Rage's brothers were over the 6 foot mark and 1 of his sisters was rather close herself. All of the other offspring had hair and eyes between the light shade of their mother and the dark shade of their father with the exception of one younger sister who had dark brown hair and green eyes. Ragis was the odd-man-out in everything. He barely topped his mother at puberty and didn't grow much after that to end at a rather petite 5 foot 9 inches tall, his hair was so blond it was nearly white and his eyes were silvery grey, and he never weighed in at more than 150 pounds before he Impressed his Peorth at the ripe old age of 21 Turns.
At 16 Turns he was expected to find a wife and settle down to raise another brood of workers. When presented with the opportunity to select his own bride-to-be, he kept his father waiting for the announcement. Brukeval waited until Rage was 18 and then made the choice for him. The young woman was the youngest daughter of one of Brukeval's friends and one of the most slovenly girls young Rage had ever seen. Needless to say, Rage was disgusted by the chosen bride not only because of her looks and manner but also because Ragis was one of the few who were drawn to members of his own sex. When he finally told his father this, Brukeval turned him out and basically disowned him. Rage then spent the next Turn or two wandering the face of Pern, trying to find a place he could fit in.
I won't go into the whole long history of his travels and adventures as it would take more than just this one page to tell the story properly. Let's just boil it down to Rage settling for a time in Telgar Weyr where he found a 'friend' where two Crafters began fighting over him. Somehow young Rage got in between them and bears the scar one of them caused to this day. And then he left for High Reaches Weyr and a much, much better life. So much for the angst!
Well, that's who Ragis was. Now we find him at High Reaches Weyr. Not his first sight of dragons and their riders, but definitely the most memorable. A young rider named K'het was the first to befriend Rage and Telynth even spoke to the visitor of a dream the dragon had had. Rage didn't know that dragon's dreamt until that moment and every time he looks at Peorth's muzzle, he knows that Telynth's dream did come true. Rage was weyrmated to K'het for a short time before he was Searched, the first clutch since his arrival at the weyr, and low and behold.....he Impressed Peorth, his lovely green. Now he had a place and a craft and someone who loved him no matter what.
There were, of course, problems between Rage and Khay...what couple don't have problems. Unfortunately, the problems couldn't be dealt with and the relationship dissolved and then Rage discovered.....females. Peorth rose in a few flights and she seemed bound and determined to have a specific blue fly her each and every time so the inevitable happened. Rage and Thesy became weyrmates and had three lovely children together. They remain weyrmates to this day though Rage does have dalliances with other riders....specifically male riders. Thesy tends to get a bit jealous if he dallys with other females, of course that isn't a problem with Sardrinth manages to catch Peorth in every single flight and R'gis just doesn't look at other females that way. Unless he's proddy, then everyone is fair game.
So, that's R'gis in a nutshell. If I think of anything else, I'll most likely add it someplace in here....maybe make another page of all his outfits, that'd be a good place to keep them, neh? You can always come onto the game and take a look at him to see his current description and costume. It seldom changes since I haven't had time to think of new outfit descs for a while now. Hope you enjoyed reading about my rider character.
