Sister - Drudge Mianarrah at Last Hope Hold (17 turns)
Physical Description: Marrinuk is rather big, standing 6'3" and weighing
210lbs. He's bulky, with both muscle and a bit of fat. He has dark brown
eyes with matching hair that he keeps cropped in a traditional rider's crop.
He has a sharp nose, though it isn't overly long. His jaw is rather well
defined, but his cheek bones are a little more hidden under flesh. He has a
relatively normal forhead as well, though he appears to have two triangles
on either side of his forhead where he has what appears to be a receeding
hairline. In reality, Marrinuk's hair has always looked like that. His hands
aren't exactly slim, but they're not chunky either. They are rather well
proportioned for his body. Marrinuk has scars on his face and body from
various fights he gotten in and other times he's been forced to fix himself.
However, even those scars aren't so large or noticable. Though Marrinuk is
definately not amazingly handsome, he isn't unattractive either.
Abilities, Strengths, Weaknesses: Marrinuk has learned to fight with daggers
rather well, well enough to keep himself alive that is. His big bulk has
given him strength that aids him. However, the bulk also means he's usually
not quite as quick as his opponent. He is usually forced to try to overpower
his opponent and block his movements. In other words he's forced to fight
physically using a very different technique than he does when he plans
things mentally.
He also has a cunning wit, to match Boramth's. He can make people agree with
him, argue a point to where any opposition usually seems silly. He's quick
on his toes, mentally anyway, able to cover one lie with another and
actually have it sound rather plausable. He's a plotter and a planner,
someone who will work out details before he acts, which usually means he can
handle suprises that come.
He has, unfortunately, a blind hatered of the dragonriders in the Weyrs. He
has discovered how the people at Mihrung behave and how they terrorize the
people, but he would prefer that over what he's considers the terror of an
unchecked Weyr. If the Mihrung weren't there, he decided, the Weyr's
dragonriders would go unchecked, taking power as they would and doing all
sorts of horrible things he just can't think of. It has blinded him to the
truth of things. He judges all dragonriders with the same anger, making it
impossible for him to ever have a relationship with one of them.
Personality: Marrinuk is a very angry person, though while he's at the Weyrs
he tries not to show it. After all, an angry rider would get too much
attention for a spy. However, that doesn't negate the fact that he's angry.
He blames much of what happened to Pern on the dragonriders of the Weyr.
They helped bring about the plague, and have as of yet been unable to
repopulate the Northern Continent. He hates them with a passion.
On the other side of Marrinuk is a rather caring, helpful young man. He
doesn't like to see any of his allies injured or betrayed. He, unlike
Boramth, is always working to better the lives of the Mihrung people, as
opposed to himself. Whenever he's seen another allied Mihrung Plainsman in
danger he was never hesitated to aid him. He would give a starving ally the
shirt off his back and would probably throw in a couple marks as well.
As he joined the Mihrung he felt less and less for people who refused to
fight against what he considered a corrupt Last Hope Weyr. He's willing to
take from Last Hope Hold, willing to kill even. His compassion has become
fiercely directed only towards those who are from the Mihrung.
On average he behaves rather average. He's got a calm exterior and tends to
smile a lot. After all, he's supposed to be a spy, and a spy should make
people feel comfortable. He's found that a small smile usually does that.
History: Marrinuk was born the first child to a drudge and the Headwoman at
Last Hope Weyr, Marrell and Lallinuka. He grew up in the very shakey
environment as a drudge at Last Hope in those times. The dragonriders were
dwindling, and most of the people were quite distrustful of them. Although
both of Marrinuk's parents lived at the Weyr, and Lallinuka is the
Headwoman, neither of them are very trusting of those people who rode
dragons. After all, they vaguely remembered the plague that killed so many.
So Marrinuk was embued with a distrust for the very people his parents
worked for.
This constant teaching of distrust eventually turned into hatered and
Marrinuk constantly thought of escape. He might like his two younger sisters
and his parents, but he hated the dragonriders even more. So as a young
child, of around 10 turns, Marrinuk could be found constantly plotting at
how to run away. Of course, he thought he'd not only have to escape his
parents, but that he'd have to escape the clutches of the evil dragonriders
as well.
It was with great happiness that Marrinuk discovered, at the age of 13
turns, he was in fact going to leave after all. Well, he was sort of
leaving. He would no longer, in his mind, be under the constant threat of
the dragonriders. Instead, Marrinuk would be appentied as a Healer. He spent
two turns as an apprentice healer, concentrating mostly on mindhealing.
Something the Terrans would have called therapy. He rather liked it, and was
going to stick with it. However, the dramatic increase in the number of
dragonriders in the Weyr was becoming too much for Marrinuk. Although the
change had occurred earlier in his childhood, it was at the age of 15 that
he decided he truely had to get away from the Weyr.
With this hatered of dragonriders in his mind, he left Last Hope Weyr, and
didn't even wish to stop at any of the Holds that were under it's
protection. He continued travelling until he reached the Mihrung Plains.
Though there were obviously dragonriders there, he did not fear nor hate
them. He had heard, as a child, of how the Mihrung and the Weyrs were
enemies, and so he figured these dragonriders must be the right kind to be
with. He joined a Clan of bandits there, and did rather well. He was slowly
gaining the favor of his Clan Leader as someone who would do as he was told,
yet someone who would often have ideas. He planned to continue as a bandit,
working up the hierarchy until he reached Clan Leader, or was chosen for a
dragon and possibley reached Third or Second.
These plans all changed when, at 18 turns, he found a turn old blue wild
dragon wandering in the area surrounding the Mihrung Plains. This dragon's
name was Boramth, and after Marrinuk gave Boramth some bits of meat he had
brought along for himself, and a bit of conversation, he Impressed. Now,
this Impression is not as close as a regular rider and his dragon, but it's
still pretty close. Although Marrinuk had a hatered for dragonriders, it had
nothing at all to do with dragons themselves. Finding a wild dragon was, in
fact, quite amazing. He had no qualms with his Impression, especially
because he knew it would help him rise in rank.
Marrinuk brought Boramth back to the Mihrung Plains and presented him to his
Clan Leader. While the Clan Leader truely wished to Impress Boramth himself,
it was clear that he was already Impressed to Marrinuk. So it was with great
annoyance that Marrinuk's Clan Leader brought him and Boramth to their
Third. From there they went to the Second, and from there to Yeesha. It was
decided that he was to spy on the Last Hope Weyr as soon as Boramth was
mature and ready to take on such a responsibility. And so for four more
turns Marrinuk stayed at the Mihrung Plains, training with Boramth and any
other immature dragons and riders they had there.
At the age of 21 turns, Marrinuk went to Last Hope Weyr, the place of his
birth and the source of so much hatered, as a spy for the Mihrung Plains.
Marrinuk saw Weyrwoman and managed to explain his sudden Impression of
Boramth to her. He said that he was in fact the Apprentice Healer who had
run off. He had found this egg, evidently discarded by the Mihrung, and had
Impressed. After a few turns on his own he explained that he decided to come
back here, to his "true home." He suggested he and Boramth act as a kind of
in-between for the three Weyrs, making it so he wasn't tied down to one or
the other. He could go from New Telgar to Wrath to Last Hope and deliver
messages easily. He found that the Weyrwoman of Last Hope accepted his idea
and thus began his work as a spy.
He can often be found at any of the three Weyrs as he isn't really tied down
to any one Weyr. He's made his own little weyr in a cave away from the Weyrs.
This gives him unfeathered access to the Mihrung Plains to report his
information. He rather enjoys his work, and is hoping to continue to work
toward a better position in the Mihrung hierarchy.
DRAGONRIDER INFORMATION
Dragonrider Rank: Rider of a Wild Dragon/Spy for Mihrung
Honorific: M'nuk (Only used during Threadfall or when he's at a Weyr)
Dragon Name: Boramth
Hatch Location: Unknown, Somewhere near the Mihrung Plains
Age: 8
Color: Blue
Physical Description: Boramth is 42 meters from nose to tail, he has a
wingspan of 50 meters and a shoulder height of 6 meters. He is about as big
as a small brown. This means he isn't quite as agile in the air as the other
blues, but he doesn't mind. He is the color of the Southern sky at midday on
a cloudless day, or there abouts. If one were to look closely, though, one
would notice that he is not the same shade of blue everywhere. While he is
mostly this sky blue, he has splotches, lines, and even his whole back left
leg that are different shades of blue. However they aren't more than a
couple shades lighter or darker.
Personality: Though Boramth is a blue, he is a wild blue, and as such tends
to behave a little more independently than a regular blue would. He obeys
his rider nearly all the time, and any gold that manages to completely
overtake him mentally, but no one else other then that. Boramth doesn't
truely respect the hierarchy of Mihrung, or any other Weyr. Marrinuk is
often forced to affirm whatever order Boramth might be given. He is haughty,
often looking down on the other blues. They are, after all, tamed and
leashed. Or at least that's how he thinks of them. He'll boss other dragons
around, and talk back to any color. Again this is excluding a gold who could
mentally overtake him, and anyone Boramth has told him not to talk back to.
However, beyond that haughty, defient blue attitude lies a rather
intellegent dragon. He will often develop original ideas and plans. Boramth
has made up for his inability to maneuvre with his mental ability. As his
personality might suggest, he's got the intellegence of a brown more than a
blue. If he had a mind to, Boramth could probably help settle problems that
might arise between other riders, except that he'd rather be the cause of
them.
When it comes to saving himself and his rider he can be the most intellegent
dragon around. He has developed a very keen ability for lieing, even to
other dragons. He's devious and spies on Last Hope Weyr just as much as
Marrinuk does. Saving or protecting anyone other than himself and his rider
is quite a bit less of a priority. He wouldn't ever risk himself too greatly
just to save someone else.
