Character Name: Yeesha (say EE-sha)
Birthdate (age): 05.21.3319 (31)
Gender: Female
Birthplace: A family holding in the North
Current Location: Mihrung Plains
Family:
Father: Dendran, herder, diseased at age 50.
Mother: Oliv, drudge, diseased at age 39.
Siblings: 4 older brother, 1 younger brother, 4 older sisters, 2
younger sisters, all holding various servitudes within the holding
and all diseased at various ages.
Physical Description:
Yeesha's appearance is not an ordinary one. Her silhouette, yes, that
is normal, but it is the colouring that sets her apart. She is
albino, one of less than a handful on the planet, and thus is unique
in looks. She is not particularly tall, nor conspicuously short.
Neither is she very large, but her body has the hard muscles of one
who trains often and hard. Her skin is as white as it is possible for
skin to be, her hair is the same, despite her young age. Any who
think her hair means she is aged changes their mind upon seeing her
face, young and cold. She keeps the hair roughly cut to below her
shoulders, and it sits there, dead straight. Her eyes are pale pink,
off setting the whiteness of her skin dramatically.
She wears black trousers tucked into good quality, stolen leather
boots. Her shirts are always white, with overly long sleeves. Her
pale skin burns after only a few minutes in the sun, and once this
served the purpose of protecting her hands from the sun's harsh rays,
but now it is redundant, and she keeps it because she likes the look
of it. Also redundant now is the veil she once wore. In her early
days in the south, she was never seen without it, and it hid her face
from others as well as the sun. Now, however, she uses a lotion to
protect her. The lotion is slathered on daily, and reapplied whenever
feasible during the day. It protects her skin from burning, and
allows her to see clearly, and others to see her, at last.
Abilities, Strengths, Weaknesses:
Probably Yeesha's most important ability, the one that she uses most
often, is her ability to talk to dragons. Yeesha is a Hear All
Dragons, and she can hear and speak to any dragon or wher she wishes
to. She has also perfected the ability to listen to any draconic
conversation without being noticed, which she uses to spy.
Her weapon of choice is a wooden staff, which she has used since her
arrival in the south. She also keeps multiple daggers on her person
at all times, hidden in her clothes. She is skilled in all weapons,
and forces herself to train every day.
She is terrific actor and manipulator, able to convince most people
of anything. This is how the original members of the Mihrung came to
her, through promises of greatness, Impression, wealth, whatever
would bring them to her. She also manipulates dragonkind, using her
HAD abilities, to make them think what she wants them to think. This
works best on young dragons, but foolish older ones can succumb to
her will as well.
Although she no longer has any physical weaknesses, Yeesha has fears.
The greatest, and perhaps the most debilitating, is the fear of close
human contact, of friendship, and in particular, love. The thought of
anyone being emotionally close to her is terrifying to Yeesha, and it
is perhaps the one place where she cannot take her manipulation.
Promises of friendship, love or sex will never be fulfilled, and they
scare Yeesha to give.
On the same token, although she understands other people's emotions,
her own are foreign territory. Generally she has a blank state when
it comes to feelings, with her mind in firm control over her heart.
Personality:
Yeesha is cold, manipulative and mean. She is dominating, and a born
leader. Had she had a more productive life, she would have made a
good craftmaster, or perhaps even Lord Holder. But as these
opportunities passed her by, Yeesha turned to a different sort of
leadership, the kind that may well lead her to domination over the
entire planet. This is, of course, her plan.
Many who walk her way of life have a lust for blood, and get an
intense pleasure from the act of killing. Yeesha has met many such
people in her life, but she is not one of them. Killing for her is
neither pleasurable nor repulsive; it's just something she does.
Those who disobey her will discover the receiving end of a weapon,
but this is done out of necessity, not lust or joy. Those who feel
such strong emotions she keeps beneath her, for strong emotions, she
believes, are a barrier that prevents proper work from being
accomplished.
History:
Growing up, Yeesha was kept indoors. There was none of the ointment
she uses now, and thus she could not go out in daylight hours. This
meant she could not play with the other children, for a start, and
had no friends as a child. Not only this, but other children were
scared of her, this creature whose hair was whiter than an Aunties
and who never went outside. And, as children will, they tormented
her, called her names, hurt her, sometimes physically.
This continued into her teenage years, when boys and girls her age
started work in the fields. She was useless as a worker, and only a
vague sense of responsibility kept the family from throwing her out
entirely. She was no longer attacked physically, as others had learnt
years before that Yeesha had taught herself to fight, to prevent such
attacks. She kept to her room, seen only at mealtimes. For the rest,
she stole volumes from the holder's small library and read, or swung
punches and kicks at the wall.
When Yeesha was 14, the holder died, and his son took over. The hold
had been steadily growing in wealth, but the son enjoyed drink and
games of chance and by the time she was 18, the hold was broke. A
decision was made to try for a new life on the Southern Continent.
Everything was sold, and a ship was bought. However, only half a day
before they were to land, a severe storm sprung out of nowhere. The
ship was thrown about mercilessly by the storm, and after several
hours was thrown upon a reef off the southern shore. Many of the
family had already been washed overboard. Others were killed on the
rocks. More were drowned when the ship actually sank, due to the
massive hole in its side. Only Yeesha made the shore, clinging to
debris as it was washed to the land. She was bleeding, burnt, half-
drowned, but alive. And not a better place could she have ended up
in. There was a cave, not 300m from where she had washed ashore, and
a spring putting forth clean, saltless water. There she recuperated,
living off wild fruit and food that washed ashore from the wreck in
waterproof cases. One such case, she was delighted to find, contained
her own things, clothes and shoes. Another contained knives. More
contained other useful things, and before a fortnight had passed, she
was ready to journey. Without mourning her family at all, she set out
into the dense jungle, to see what she could find.
Her first encounter with whers happened a month later. In a clearing,
she found a creature the size of a large lion. Golden, scaled, dead,
it lay beside a mound of rotting organic material. On closer
inspection, Yeesha found an egg poking out of it. This egg was cold,
but the purpose of the mound was clear and Yeesha, out of curiosity,
began to dig for other eggs that hadn't cooled. She found three in
the centre of the nest that were warm to touch, out of more than
twenty that were cold. Out of these three, one hatched, a small brown
form, the perfect miniature of the great gold beast lying dead beside
them. He cried his hunger, and Yeesha saw at once that her was a meat
eater, and the only available food was his dead mother. Yeesha
ushered him over, and the gold wher provided for her baby in death.
Impression was made, and Yeesha acquired the first companion that
didn't run at the site of her.
They met other whers on their journey, and spoke with them, in their
strange mental picture-idea language. Yeesha had never had contact
with whers or dragons previously, and didn't realise that she
shouldn't have been able to speak with those not bonded to her.
Over a year after the shipwreck, Yeesha finally found humans. Her
name was Amaeldi, and she was a bandit, one of the group who called
themselves the Whers for their wher companions. Yeesha joined their
numbers, living among the thieves in their den. Many were simple
minded, others lusted after the kill. A few were the more intelligent
brand of thief, and their leader, Ferohnin, was interested in one
thing: revenge.
It was here she learned her ability to bespeak the whers was unique,
and when sent to spy on the Weyr, she learned it extended to dragons.
She also learned how useful it could be. It gave her an edge on the
other Whers. By now, she had decided that taking orders was not for
her, and she would prefer to be giving them. She had a respect for
Ferohnin, but it lessened every time she spoke with him. She half
considered taking the leadership from him, but before she could put a
plan in action, Last Hope Hold attacked the Den in force. Their
numbers were reduced by almost half, and the Whers moved on.
They moved, in fact, to the new mining hold, Turnis. Ferohnin
expected them to work in the mines. Yeesha would not. Silently,
without telling a soul in that hideous place, she left.
But as a lone traveller she was powerless, and power was something
she decided she wanted. It was then that she hatched a plan that
would change the face of Pern.
Step one involved disguise, and she moved into the Weyr, masquerading
as the drudge Analyse, using dye to hide her distinctive colouring.
From her she learned about dragons, their care, abilities, and more.
At the same time, she was recruiting people from the Hold, those with
a grudge against their world. And when silver Islath laid her clutch,
they struck.
Yeesha and her small group of followers, recruited with promises of
power, Impression, wealth, as their natures dictated, stole half of
the clutch. They took with them the largest of the eggs, using a fire
in the Candidate Barracks as cover. When the theft was discovered,
they were long gone.
The eggs hatched on the newly named Mihrung Plains, far to the south
of Weyr and Hold. Yeesha impressed her Gold, as she had planned. This
was the way to get power, to dominate over the world that had hurt
her so much. The dragons that hatched were from a mutant Queen, and
thus, although normal, had some slight differences from their
brethren. These differences were also a result of radiation from a
meteor passed on the way to the Plains. The most obvious difference
was that Yeesha's Gold dragon was male, and sterile, as opposed to
the usual fertile Queens of his colour.
The group, christened Mihrung after the thorny plant so abundant in
their sanctuary, continues to grow. A non-mutant queen egg was stolen
after a time, and more dragons hatch within Mihrung. The wild dragons
have also joined them, as have many wild whers, thanks to Yeesha's
and her Gold's persuasion. They steal from Hold and Weyr, they instil
fear into people, they dominate over their corner of the world. And
Yeesha is in the centre of it all, deciding where to strike next,
enjoying, at last, power over those who spite her.
Her next target is Ferohnin, now the Lord of Last Hope Hold. Once the
leader of the Whers, she wants him to suffer for putting her to work
in that filthy mine. It will require skill, however. She wants to
hurt him, not kill him. Make him bow to her.
DRAGONRIDER INFORMATION
Dragonrider Rank: Queen of the Mihrung
Honorific: n/a
Dragon Name: Uditith (say yoo-DY-tith)
Hatch Location: Mihrung Plains
Age: 12 years
Colour: Gold (male)
Physical Description: Uditith is a very large dragon, powerful
dragon. Nose to tail, he is 50m, with a 65m wingspan. He is lithe,
with muscles rippling under his hide. His eyes are proportionally
larger than average. He has a long scar at the top of one leg, the
result of a holder who thought to hurt him whilst his back was
turned. Yeesha took the man down, but the scar remains. His colour is
the pure gold of the sun, moving to a slightly orange tone on his
underbelly.
Personality: Arrogant, powerful, and vengeful are all good words for
describing Uditith. He knows, with great certainty, that he is the
most powerful of the dragons. He does not brag, but he is showy, and
likes people to acknowledge his greatness. He uses his will on
dragons, and as he is a Gold, they won't disobey him. He despises
mating flights, seeing them as a pointless waste of time. As he was
born sterile, he has never been affected by a rising, and cannot
comprehend the lust that may overcome a dragon. He tolerates them
only because they bring new numbers to the Mihrung.
PET INFORMATION
Pet Name: Illinesk
Age: 15 years
Pet type: Wher
Colour: Brown
Physical Description: Illinesk is a creamy shade of brown, smooth, as
though he were bathed in moonlight. He is large for a brown,
rivalling the smaller bronzes of his kind. Although involved in many
battles, he has no scars, healing easily.
Personality: Calm and collected, Illinesk is not one for fraternising
either. He holds himself superior to all others of his kind, but it
is a quiet superiority as opposed to Uditith's. He is fast, and
exceedingly loyal to Yeesha. He views wild whers with a kind of pity,
for they will never be as great as he.
