SEPTEMBER 17th, 2003: Welcome to the "Countdown to Chaos" homepage! Even though the project is only in the early stages of development, we of the creative team are very excited about the whole thing! It's going to be an interesting project, as "Countdown to Chaos" is actually going to be a step down in the coding department from HOS. This isn't because of lack of desire to make it the best it can be...we have the code for HOS, and could have used it, after all. Rather, the goal for CTC is to have a more "classic" wolf 3D feel to it. Yes, there are going to be lots of strange enemies and stuff, but we don't want to get hung up on environment in this game. Also, there will be fewer weapons than in HOS, but it's quality that matters, not quantity, right? If any of these decisions change down the road, you'll find out about it here, but for now, that's the way things are. Keep an eye on this site for further updates!
SEPTEMBER 19th, 2003: Well, several sections have been added over the past few days. The CTC site won't have quite as many sections as the HOS site does, but it will still be very informative, and hopefully, interesting. Here's some exciting news...CTC will feature textured floors and ceilings, and exploding barrels and pipes, as well as a few other cool changes. Look for it to be an exciting game all in all. Until next time...
SEPTEMBER 22nd, 2003: I've made some significant updates to the "Enemies" and "Weapons/Items" sections, and have added several images of of items and treasure, as well as the "environmental hazards" on the "Enemies" page. As far as actual work goes on CTC, during breaks from working on Halls of Stonehenge, I've done a lot of wall and sprite replacement, and that is all going very well. It looks like CTC is going to be a fantastic TC when completed. The coding is already pretty close to complete, as it will use a souped up version of the HOS code, and I already have a level designer lined up, so it won't be long before this project takes off once HOS is done. Stay tuned!
DECEMBER 8th, 2003: Sorry for the lack of updates recently! This isn't because I've been inactive with my projects, actually, quite the opposite! Due to the release of "Halls of Stonehenge", a push to finish "Operation: Hundscheisse", and some attention devoted to some other projects, CTC has gotten a little less attention than usual the last few months, but is by no means being neglected! Actually, I've done a lot of adding and changing to sprites and wall textures lately, and have been paying a lot of attention to giving the level building team a lot of good stuff to work with.
In other news, one of my brothers is working on a "prequel" to CTC, which will take place after HOS and before CTC. He's been given my blessing, and I've given him the necessary weapon, status bar, and other sprites for the project, but outside that, I'm letting him handle all the rest. Looks like it's going to be a great game! Anyway, I'm still working on CTC, so don't despair! I'll try to be a little more faithful about the updates! Take care!
MAY 7th, 2004: Well, it's been a while since any news was posted here...sorry about that! The good news though is that the project has been started up again! Also, ack, who was responsible for designing a lot of the great levels in HOS is on board to whip up some masterpieces for CTC. I've seen just a little of what he's done so far, and it looks great! I'm looking forward to seeing some of the cool (and devious) stuff he's discussed for his levels put into action.
As of now, most of the sprites and wall textures etc have been completed, though some are still waiting to be decided until the project progresses a little further. Still waiting for confirmation on what coding changes will be implemented, but we've got high hopes for some bells and whistles that will make the game cool without taking too much away from the gameplay itself.
Well, that's it for now! I promise to post news here more frequently as the days go on and the project progresses. If you don't see news posted here for a few days, just assume nothing's changed, and I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. Until next time...
