With the weather still holding, "I can't believe it is still January!" we carry on.

By now, we are getting excited about the whole venture. As you can see from the picture, a good day's work has been carried out again by the workforce. The steel sleepers that can be seen were hammered in by the caterpillar when we had him. Then, we cut the wooden gates with the aid of a chainsaw, measured them and just slotted them down. We now got to task with re-enforcing the whole structure. For this we firstly placed a thick membrane onto the Pool bed directly in front of the gate. Onto this we placed, by hand, over a tonne of limestone and then road stone to level it off. Then we sectioned off the bank with posts etc. and again filled with limestone. Over 4 tonnes were used and because of the wet ground, we had to move this by trailer and quad bike (We did not want to churn up the ground more than we had to).

Here is the makings of our sluice gate. Nowhere near ready to take any water yet as a lot of re-inforcing is required.

The finished article. Over four tonnes of limestone later.
