Letter to President Wilson

This essay is a letter to President Wilson. The assignment here was to write a letter to, well, the President about World War I, either supporting the United States' involvement, or not supporting it. This is what I wrote. Oh, BTW, this was for World Studies.(Written 3/15/00)

March 2, 1917

Dear President Wilson,

This bothersome War has been going on for far too long. It seems to me now that the only possible resolution is for the United States to join in and participate. We would give the Allies the added advantage that they need to defeat the German forces. And defeat them we must. They are dangerous and conniving. I wouldn’t trust them with so much as a grain of sand. This threat must be eliminated. I call them a threat, yes, as I’m sure 128 other Americans would as well, if they were still with us on this frightful day. The Lusitania was supposed to be their safe passage, if it were not for the German’s unrestricted submarine warfare in May of 1915. Their actions are inexcusable! The Lusitania was a passenger ship! People that had no involvement whatsoever in this bloody War were killed by German U-boats. Because of these unpardonable actions, I must resort to calling these power-hungry Germans a threat.

The potential atrocities the German people are capable of are outstanding! They must not be allowed to happen! The Zimmerman Note in February of 1917 is proof enough of this. They tried to corrupt and make an allegiance with the people of Mexico. They stated that if the Mexicans would only help them win the War, then the Germans would give them back Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. This is a complete and total outrage! It must not be allowed to happen! If the Germans were to succeed in this endeavor, it would be the biggest disgrace the U.S. has ever endured. We must act now! Throw ourselves into this tragic War, heart and soul, so that we can persevere, and stand proud when peace is at last achieved. We can proudly declare that it was our forces, our troops, and our blood that helped to win this brutal battle! Join in the War! Do it for the people! Do it for our country! Do it for the United States of America!

Make Us Proud,

Revo Keshmon
