What I Do At The Fair

This is a Narrative Essay I wrote for Language class on 11/7/95.

At the fair I do a lot of different things. I’ve been going to fair ever since I can remember, but not showing, just going.

For the past 3 years, when I’ve shown my dog, Terry. I’ve shown her in Fitting and Showing, conformation, obedience, and costume. I have fun when I show her, and I get ribbons for it.

Also at fair I do a demonstration. I’ve only done a demonstration for one year, last year. I was nervous, but once I relaxed I did fine. After I was done I got ribbons, a blue and a special award.

When I’m not showing or am busy with something else I play the games or ride the rides. When I play the games I try to win. I’m best at throwing darts at balloons. I get prizes too. When I ride the rides I like to ride the biggest rides. I get really scared. Afterward I laugh about it. Sometimes I get sick if I ride too many all at once.

I visit with friends when I’m at fair too. We help each other and give each other encouragement when we go in the ring. We goof around and play with the dogs. We talk about how we’ve done and brag about our ribbons. It’s a lot of fun.

I help out a lot too. I do things such as herdsmanship. While I do herdsmanship I sometimes sweep the barn. Also I take dogs out to go to the bathroom, to get a drink, or to exercise.

I do groom squad at fair also. Groom squad is when we take a dirty dog, bath it, and groom it. Then we show the dog. There’s several groups that compete against each other at one time. There’s 3 or 4 people in a group. I get ribbons for it too.

I do all this at fair, and many other things almost too numerous to count.
