I See the World

I see the world
As it lies
With broken hearts
And bloodshot eyes
Seen too much
To be surprised
By wars and hate
And compromise.

But I see life
On a sunny rise
And acknowledge all
That it denies
Through trouble and
Misfortune flies
Pleasant thoughts
That no one buys.

I have heard
The lonely sighs
Felt the longing
The mournful cries
The hand that reaches
Out and pries
Apart your mind
With endless why’s.

Then your heart
It contrives
From out the pain
And hate derives
A love that’s real
And always tries
To give a hope
That never dies.

And then my heart
Is comprised
Of speech and song
And then it vies
Philosophies spoken
By other guys
“Now listen to Him,”
It does advise.

So I listened
To the higher ties
He who stands
Up in the skies
Who within us
All abides
The unfathomable gift
The ultimate prize.

Now I know what
The world denies
Why its mournful
Sorrowing cries
Why nevermore
I’ll compromise
And now will listen only
To the holy wise.
