As I wandered
Throughout my mind
I stumbled upon an ancient man
Who told me therein what I’d find.
“Keep on this path
And you’ll never return
In the fires of hell
Is where you’ll burn.
“You know not your own mind
It leads you down the path of night
Turn back now from whence you came
Go back to your righteous light.”
I laughed at him and called him a fool
“Old man, you’ll not trick me
On I’ll go and seek my way
For the scheme you play I clearly see.
“Turn back now and I’ll never find
What I came here to reveal
The pathways of the human mind
And from them the truth of what is real.”
And I left him where he sat
With crooked cane and gruesome eyes
He watched as I went on my way
He knew he told no lies.
But as I left him far behind
My heart told me to return
My mind was racing, fearing what I’d find
Wondering just what truth I’d learn.
When panic was starting to over-rule
The path took a turn and down it went
I debated a moment to keep going
But my curiosity would not relent.
I reached the bottom of the path
And found no turn on which to go
Straight ahead was a wall
And to the sides no road lay low.
The night grew cold by bitter wind
I turned to run, but could not leave
I blinked my eyes, then blinked again
Surely my sight could not deceive.
But it was true, this was real
Trapped in illusions all my own
The fires flew up around my soul
This is hell, I should have known.
The man was right
I should have fled
Back to my light
But now I’m dead.
Do not be deceived, fair friend
Listen to your heart and soul
Dreams are the things that always bend
Our realities, and we’re the ones that pay the toll.
Now leave before it is too late
Go back on the path from whence you came
Do not meddle with your fate
The fires of hell you cannot tame.
Take these words as sign of caution
If you fail them, blame not me
I’ve warned you of the fate within
It is up to you to turn and flee.
Now return to your sacred light
The darkness here will destroy your soul
It is pain and suffering all day and night
Go now and pay not the ultimate toll.
