Space Date 042803: Docking Bay OSU VTH, 1100-1300 hrs

The first thing that was going on when I got there today was a horse had just come in with part of his face pushed in. Apparently it was an accident that involved cross-ties and pipes. Anyway, we took radiographs to see just how extensive the damage was and try to determine the best course of action. This process (along with talking to the owners) took most of the time I was there today. Basically the whole left side of this horse's face, including part of the orbital, was collapsed in. The owner's decided to opt for surgery. This will entail trying to pull the crushed bones back up and into place, hopefully relieving much of the pressure on the eye and sinus. The vet seemed to think the eye still might be viable. Sinusitus was of a concern for the future, since it appeared that in the left sinus was a lot of hematoma. The recovery time, if everything goes well with the surgery, is probably about 6-8 weeks, unless the horse hits his head on something, causing more damage, but he should be okay, just a little asymmetrical in the head.

After this I bedded down the stall for this horse, then took another for a walk outside. And that's pretty much it for today!
