Today there wasn't much to do, let alone anything new, fun, or exciting. They were doing shift changes and case transfers today, so there wasn't much going on. But I do have some follow-ups for some of the cases that I've talked about before.

The first is the horse with a growth on his gum. The growth was removed and he was back in for a check-up on it. They had placed a plate of some sort over the hole to help prevent food from getting in there. They flushed out whatever material had gotten caught, then removed the plate. It should keep healing by itself now.

The next case is the horse with the smashed in face. He is doing much much better. They did surgery and used bolts placed through the bone to pull it back into place. There are two holes drilled in through his skull to different nasal areas to allow for drainage right now. They will eventually heal up. He almost looks normal now, though there is a little asymmetry, but not too much so. He should also be fine.

The last update I have is on the foal with white muscle disease. She is doing very well, considering. They have her outside in a pasture with her mother right now, when the weather allows. She still has a little trouble getting up on her own and doesn't have a full range of flexibility in all her joints yet, but she seems to be continually improving.

And really, the last part of the day I simply spent wandering around and chatting with the other volunteer. Hopefully something more exciting will happen on Friday!
