A 2003 return trip to Cadiz after 2 years....Check it out!!

Ok, so the story goes like this..... My mate Nick was feeling depressed coz his girlfriend binned him and needed cheering up. I was skint having just come back from Thailand followed by three weeks of idling in the UK. However, the lure of this great city was too much so in October 2003 Ryan air whisked us off to Andalucia once more

Well, decided to check out a different school this time,So we went to Gadir. I have to say I was not impressed with the accomodation, stuck out at the end of the new city....

The "Santa Maria" beach just across the road from our school. Had never been there before and it seems quieter than the other 2 main beaches....It was still warm enough in late October to deck out but the beach bars had all closed.Good view of the Cathedral.
Last time in Cadiz I couldn't be bothered to do anything touristy. This time we climbed the tower on the right,visited the crypt and went to the "camera obscura" which gives you a panoramic view of the city projected onto a big table.
Once up there, great views and this picture shows the bell tower on the other end.

Now, while we were up there the bells began to chime for the first time in 20 years(apparently) to celebrate the popes 25th year of ascension <a href="espbells.mpg"> <img src="snailbluestairs.jpg" border="0" align="left" width="160" height="120" vspace="10" hspace="20" /> </a>
After 2 weeks we were kicked out of the apartment which was a blessing cos it meant we could move back to the old city.Ended up staying in a hostel call "casa carocol" close to this street

The English guy who runs it, called Nick, has tried make the place colourful, easygoing unlike the main hostal in Cadiz "Quo Cadiz" where you get kicked out at 11am and aren't allowed back until 5!!
And at the end of it all the school gave us the obligatory certificates to show we are now fully proficient in the language!!.....Ha!
