Have you ever stopped to think about why you're doing a certain thing? Perhaps you wondered why you're purchasing a sweater when you know you have billions. Or maybe you wonder why you're working at Taco Bell when the pay sucks and you hate tacos. I asked myself countless times why I'm making Steve this fan site. I know he's probably never going to see it. Ever. So why take the time? Then the reason dawned on me. It's not for Steve at all. It's for me.
When I first became a true fan of male gymnastics, it was all about Blaine. Then I started watching the trials and I got to know a little bit about Steve. Still, I didn't really give a crap (Sorry Steve, if you're reading this). Then came the Olympics and I got to really see and understand the essence of Steve McCain. It came suddenly and unexpectedly. It came on the vault. It came when Steve, with both ankles taped up, vaulted over the horse anyway. He didn't fall or crumble in pain, he just let it show across his face. Even so, he didn't quit. He was the only one who landed his high bar routine when it counted. I was so impressed with his motivation, endurance, stamina, strength, and will to fight. He was impressive.
After the Games were over, I decided to look up Steve McCain websites to learn more. It's a habit my sister and I have. We like something, we look it up and save all the pictures. You should see the hard drive. But I digress. What I discovered was that were none. No fan sites created to show Steve love. So I felt this energy to go and start one. At first, I wasn't really into it. I'm not a website builder. But I felt that because they're weren't none, I had to be the first one out there.
To make this site more than one page, I had to research Steve and learn more about him. While doing this critical research, I got to learn more about the person behind that gorgeous body with the perfect pecs. He was sweet, intelligent, determined, a go-getter, had an amazing positive outlook on life, and was just all-around the perfect role model for kids and adults alike. He was Steve and he was beautiful.
Steve makes me think a lot about what I can do in my life to keep it on the up and up. I ask myself "Would Steve quit?" all the time now. The answer (unfortunatly) is always no. I find myself taking the Steve approach to life. It's not a hard way either. It's all about being positive and making lemonade out of lemons. It's about pushing yourself til you can't anymore, then continuing to push. It's about finding what you really want, and going for it. There is a little Steve in all of us. I just might have had to point it out to you.
This part is for Steve. Ya'll can read it anyway!
Steve, this site was made for you. Not for you to actually look at(although if you're reading this, then you are and thank you!) but for you to know that you have fans out there who care about you and show you that through the most popular way on the internet; the website. However I don't consider this site just a me thing. I dedicate this site to those who can't make one, to those who don't have the time, to those who don't have the internet, to those who cheer for you when you're on tv and feel that's enough. To all your fans everywhere, this site was made for them to show their love for you.
