Welcome to the twenty-first century, and a whole new era for America. This is the start of the facist regime taking full control of this 'freedom-loving' nation. The United States Senate, which can barely keep its members from bouncing checks, sleeping with preeteenagers, and consuming various illegal substances, has decided it knows just how to solve what they see as the 'American People's' worry over Terrorism. Or, as Dubbya pronounces it, 'Terra'.
How will they protect this nation, you ask? Will they finally be pulling their heads out of their asses, cutting their own useless budgets, getting out of social issues, and stick to government's sole purpose - the defense and referee of the country?
NOT BY A LONG SHOT!!
No, they decided to pass a bill that endangers civil liberties in America, under the guise of 'anti-terrorism'. Just watch. Two years, after this has all cooled down, the cops will be using their new powers on the American people.
Hey - did the police submit UNCONSTITUTIONAL evidence against you through a wiretap without getting a court order or warrant signed by a judge? They sure did! And it is their RIGHT. That is just one of the lovely additional powers they have gained in the new Dubbya Regime.
What are some other tools now given to police and law enforcement officers? (And remember - there is no limit on how long this bill lasts. It isn't temporary. It's the new Regime Policy.) Well, they can seize Email, Voice mail, use intelligence agencies here and abroad to spy on American citizens, and are given a nearly free reign when hunting down 'terrorists'.
What's wrong with this, you ask? There is no definition of terrorist in the bill. One gets the sense of double talk as the words are perused. Terrorist could just as easily be replaced with Activist or Protestor or Citizen. There are no stipulations. Rather than taking an alternative approach to this matter, knowing that terrorists are not an enemy that can be defined in the conventional sense, The Senate has decided a blanket law can do well enough. So now, these laws not only apply to those people who would fly planes into buildings and blow up embassies, but it also applies to any person seen as a 'potential threat'. You cannot leave a bill on the books with language that loose. It is entirely too open-ended, and can be used against US, the very people the damned thing is supposed to be protecting!
Now, you may be of the opinion that such a bill is called for, warranted, considering the circumstances we find ourselves in. I nod and will hear you out. You are wrong, of course, but so be it. What The Senate should have done is they should have limited this bill in length, if they couldn't control its scope. They could have set an expiration of one year on it. That would have been wise. Instead, they are unwittingly taking another shot at civil liberties.
They are morons and fools, tearing this country away from the principles it was founded on. If America is indeed the home of the free, then they should GET THE HELL OUT OF OUR LIVES!!!!
