Blue Peter Pets
Dogs
Petra The first pet, a female mixed breed dog that appeared between 1962 and 1977.
During the 1990s it was revealed that an original (unnamed) puppy had died of distemper a few days after her first appearance on the programme and was replaced by the dog which was subsequently named Petra by the viewers.
Patch 9 September 1965 - 1971 was son of Petra, he was looked after by presenter John Noakes after he joined the programme in December 1965.
Died suddenly in 1971 from a rare disease.
Shep1971-1987 a border collie, bought by the to replace Patch.
He became the main Blue Peter dog when Petra died in 1977.
Shep left Blue Peter when Noakes departed in June 1978. Shep died in 1987.
Goldie a female golden retriever who appeared from 1978 to 1986.
She made her first appearance on the show as a puppy and was named by viewers of Blue Peter.
She left along with Simon Groom.
Bonnie 3 February 1986 - 18 April 2001 the daughter of Goldie.
She succeeded her mother as the Blue Peter dog.
She retired in 1999 and died at the age of 15 in 2001.
Mabel born c. 1995, a Border Collie Cross and is Blue Peter's longest serving current dog being on the show for over ten years.
She was rescued by the RSPCA in 1995 and she was about 6 months old when she joined the show.
Mabel is noticeable for having heterochromia eyes (one blue and one brown) and distinctive ears.
Lucy born 14 September 1998 she is a pedigree Golden Retriever.
Meg a Border Collie who belonged to presenter Matt Baker.
Whilst not considered an official pet she frequently appeared on the show alongside Matt during his tenure as a Blue Peter presenter.
Meg left with Matt in 2006.
Barney Barney is a former stray and was given to presenter Helen Skelton by the Dogs Trust 22 September 2009

Henry 4 April 2019 the Beagle/basset hound joined the show. He was rescued by Dogs Trust when he was two years old

Cats
Jason 3 May 1964 - January 1976 the first Blue Peter cat (a Seal Point Siamese) who joined after appearing on an episode with his mother, brother and sister at just three weeks old.
Jack 29 January 1976 - 20 April 1986 a silver striped tabbie and the brother of Jill.
Made his television with his sister debut just three weeks after they were born.
Jack died suddenly in 1986.
Jill 29 January 1976 - 30 May 1983) was the sister of Jack.
On 15 May 1980 Jill gave birth to two kittens who appeared with their mother on the show on 23 June.
Jill died of heart failure in 1983.
Willow First appeared in September 1986 as a replacement to Jack.
She was the first pet to be spayed.
She retired from the programme in 1991 to live in Sussex.
Kari Rescued as kittens and they made their debut six weeks later. They were named after karaoke.
They retired from the program in 2004, shortly after their 13th birthday.
Oke
Smudge Smudge was named as a kitten by the viewers and was one of the most popular kittens on the show.
He died after being run over outside his home when he was less than a year old in 2005.
Socks born 29 November 2005, is the current Blue Peter cat who first appeared on 9 January 2006 as Smudge's replacement.
Viewers selected the name Cookie, but producers changed the result to Socks.
CookieCookie was introduced to the show on 25 September 2007.
Following the scandal caused by the Socks naming incident, the new kitten will be called Cookie (the name originally chosen for Socks).
Tortoises
FredaMade her debut on 21 October 1963 and lived to April 1979.
Originally thought to be a male and was called Fred, but renamed when it was realised she was female.
Maggie 27 August 1974 - January 1982 were brother and sister who made their first appearance in 1974.
Joined the show on a regular basis in 1979 after the death of Freda.
Jim
George c. 1920 - 10 May 2004, a Mediterranean spur-thigh tortoise who first appeared on the programme in 1982 and holds the title of longest serving Blue Peter pet.
Originally named Pork Pie, viewers renamed him George.
George made his last appearance on the show on April 14, 2004.
Shelley c. 1985, a Mediterranean spur-thigh tortoise who first appeared on the programme in 2004 as George's replacement.
Parrots
JoeyJoey appeared on the programme during the 1960s alongside Petra, Patch and Jason.
BarneyBarney, a blue-fronted amazon was brought in after the death of Joey.
