JULY 14th
Just a quick one for now but i'm going to update the site next
weekend with lots of new pics and a bit more detail about what i've been up to.
At the moment I'm working for Deloitte, one of the 'Big Four' accountancy firms. The Vacation Scheme is highly competitive - this year there were 900 applicants for 30 places, but somehow I managed to blag one! We spent the first week all together in offices for training and induction exercises, but the rest of the time are spread throughout the various 'service lines' of the company in two rotations. I'm currently working in the Financial Services Audit group, working on the audit of an international bank with a team of five. The scheme is all about actually experiencing the work of a graduate employee rather than making tea or stuffing letters - today I was on the phone to people in Asia, Australasia and America, and i've already carried out a wide range of tasks in the space of three days. This rotation lasts for three weeks, then for the second half of the scheme i'm working for the 'Enterprise Risk Services Internal Audit Services' department (what a mouthful!).
There's a good social life to the scheme and we get taken out
for an all-expenses paid get together every Thursday night - this week its the
London Eye and drinks, plans for coming weeks include curry at Brick Lane and a
theatre trip. All in all i'm having a great time - it's brilliant work
experience, well paid, and good fun as well (although having to get up at 7 each
morning is a shock to the student system!).
It's no good having all work and no play so I'm off to Majorca with Ian in
September to spend some of my well earned money!
Photos coming soon.....
