“Broken Hearted”

Krista and Meggin sat backstage at the Blink 182 concert, waiting for them to
come off stage. They were best friends and each of them was dating a member of
Blink 182.
Krista had been dating Tom for almost four months and Meggin had been dating
Mark for close to a year. Both couples were very happy and double dated a lot.
They had both met Mark and Tom when they had made it backstage at a Green Day
show. But poor Travis, he was without a girlfriend.
The girls stayed on tour with them and waited backstage at every show. Every
now and then they would get seats and watch the show, but after a while it got
boring. Mark and Tom treated them like queens.
Travis came backstage, wiping the sweat off of his body with a green towel.
“Hi,” Krista said. She always tried to talk to Travis as much as possible. He
was always so quiet and seemed so sad. She sometimes felt sorry for him.
“Hey, what’s up?” he asked, quietly.
“Not much. Where’s Tom and Mark?”
“They’re out signing autographs.”
“Oh, ok.”
Travis grabbed a bottle of water out of the small fridge in the corner and sat
down in a folding chair. The cold metal felt good against his sweaty body.
“Doesn’t Travis look sad?” Krista whispered to Meggin.
Meggin glanced over at Travis who was sitting with his eyes closed and his head
thrown back.
“Yeah, he does,” Meggin whispered back.
“Hey, hey, I love my lady!” Tom yelled as he came strutting backstage. He came
up to Krista, wrapped his arms around her and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
“Ewwww, you’re all sweaty,” she replied.
“Sorry babe. But what do you expect when I’m up there for almost two hours
jumping around?”
After Blink 182 mingled with the fans for a while Travis decided to head out to
the tour bus. Mark, Meggin, Tom and Krista followed not long after.
“Hey there, Travis,” Mark said in a southern accent as he made his way to the
back of the bus, holding Meggin’s hand.
“Hey,” Travis replied, not even forcing a smile.
After everyone got settled in the back of the bus they pulled away from the
arena they played at that night. They were doing their usual talking about the
show that night.
As they sat talking and listening to the radio, their hit “All the Small
Things” came on the radio and Mark and Tom started to sing along. As the song
reached “na-na-na-na” Mark began to kiss Meggin while trying to sing. She pulled
away from him.
“Honey, I’m sorry, but you can’t sing and kiss at the same time.”
“Yeah, stupid!” Tom replied.
That night, each of the guys roomed with their girlfriends, except for Travis.
He was all alone, once again.
Krista couldn’t stop thinking about Travis. She couldn’t help but feel sorry
for him. She even thought that he was kind of cute. She wondered if she had a
crush on him. She really needed to figure her feelings out.
The next morning Mark, Tom and Meggin all decided to go shopping since they had
a free day. Travis wanted to stay behind and Krista faked sick, just so she
could stay with Travis.
After Krista made sure everyone was gone, she made her way across the hall to
Travis’s room. She knocked on the door. Travis peeked out the door and opened
it. He was in a pair of boxer shorts. His hair was a mess.
“Um, hi,” she said.
“Hey,” he quietly replied.
“Can I come in?” she asked.
“Sure.”
He stepped back to let Krista in.
“Why didn’t you go shopping?” he asked.
“Because, I didn’t. Why didn’t you?”
“Just because. I didn’t feel like it, ok?”
“Do you ever?”
“No. Can I ask why you’re here?”
She sat down.
“Ok, it’s like this. I’m not going to lie. I always feel bad for you. You
always seem so sad. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me. Then last night before I
went to sleep I kept thinking about you and I think I might have feelings for
you.”
“Me?” Travis asked, surprised.
“Yes, you. And I want to kiss you. I don’t mean a little peck either. I mean a
nice, passionate kiss. I need to know whether I have real feelings for you or if
it’s just me feeling sorry for you.”
“Well, I should tell you that I’ve had a crush on you ever since you and Tom
first got together. I know he’s one of my best friends, but I can’t help it that
I’m attracted to you. And yes, I do still have a crush on you.”
“Awww, Travis. That’s so sweet,” Krista replied.
“Well it’s true.”
“So how about that kiss.”
“I don’t know…..cause of Tom,” he said, worriedly.
“He doesn’t have to know.”
“Ok.”
Krista got up off of the bed and walked over to the window, where Travis was
standing. She could feel her heart begin to beat faster. She felt bad to have to
kiss him when she was dating Tom, but she needed to know whether or not she did
have feelings for him. She put her arms around him, pulled herself closer to him
and they kissed. After about a minute of kissing him, she pulled away.
“Well?” he asked.
“I didn’t feel anything, really. So I guess it’s not a crush.”
“Good. Because Tom really loves you. I like you, but I don’t love you like he
loves you.”
“Why? Why does he love me so much?” She asked with glassy eyes.
“To tell you the truth, I don’t really know. I’m sure it’s because you’re a
wonderful person. He said it’s all the small things like how you leave him
little notes all over the apartment and stuff.”
“Really?”
“Yep,” he replied.
Krsita hugged Travis.
“Thank you so much! You’re the best!”
“No problem.”
Travis couldn’t help but feel sad. He really hoped that the kiss would have
meant something to Krista.
“Well, I should go and get back in bed. I faked sick to come see you. Thanks
again. And start doing stuff with the band.”
“Right.”
Then Krista left the room, closing the door behind her and breaking Travis’
heart.
