Freud had a theory that the personality is comprised of the basic factors. The ID, the Superego and the Ego. Basically, the ID is the primitive brain, the brain stem area houses the ID and is our genetic link to basic Instincts and drives. Instincts like basic sexual drives, basic pleasure, hostility ,and aggressive behavior.Traits that seek pleasure and satisfaction disregard the methods that bring these behaviors to fruition. No behavior is unacceptable to obtain what is desired.

The superego is a learned barrier, if you will. That prevents these urges from being obtained in uncontrolled and socialable ways and may be harmful to others as well as one. Look at it as a screen that is built with education and the grids are made smaller by teaching and prevents the unmonitored desires of the ID.

The Ego is the resulting personality that has had the ID’s , desires modified and or repressed by the Superego. The resulting behavior is more socially acceptable.

Religion and parental guidance are the two primary controls of right and wrong, that focus and form the Superego.

Morality is the educational by product of education and modifying the personality of a self-serving to a caring, considerate, loving and helping personality. The other side of this coin is the sociopath who has uninhibited id impulses and can function with no remorse or concern for their acts.

So who is giving our children this development and growth of the Superego? As we look at society and see most major professions taking advantage of their fellow human beings, it suggest that no one is. Society is becoming Sociopathic as a norm. Lets all stop and think wherer this progression will take the world as society. Will there be the have's and have nots? Will the big fish eat the small? Stop and give reflection before it is too late.
