The Fool
Drawing the Fool suggests that the individual lacks direction and awareness of their own potential. They are a slave to external urges and obligations, going wherever the tide carries them, with no real sense of self-worth. The fool is a true cog of the system, with no self-identity. The individual should evaluate their own potential and self-worth.
The image is of a man, dressed in the standard garb of modern middle-management. He carries a briefcase which contains the tools of the Magus, but the Fool is unaware of their potential, and they are nothing but a burden to him. The beast at his buttock represents the primal urges that he sees as external and often undeniable. Attached to his neck is a clock; time is not his friend, instead dragging forward without purpose of reason. The Fool does not even see where he is going, and is unaware of the abyss at his feet.
Structurally, the image is the opposite of the Hanging Man. Her legs are crossed as the Hanging Man’s, forming the same material square, and her arms and body form the triangle of spirituality. However, in this image, these forms are in their rightful positions, the material supporting the spiritual.
The traditional meaning of this image indicates apathy, passivity, and lack of awareness.
