Miscellaneous|| Open Mic Night || Encore:Laughing For A Mate 2 ||Open Mic NightNow just a quick word to those who like myself sit in the front row. Prepare to be heckled. That stupid little goth guy in the front. U had no right to get the shits with people laughing at you. Going by the way you looked that night, you should be used to it by now. don't take it out on the rest of us. Instead of going to a comedy night, why don't you go sacrifice a virgin or something? Although I hear its quite hard to sacrifice yourself. Now I need asaucer of milk And for that dickhead up the back who decided to talk on his phone and the one who decided to heckle Wil (it might have been the same guy, it was hard to see with the glare of the lights reflecting off your bald head); Wil was absolutely right in what he said to you. If the comedy world was Gladiators, you would be Kevin the accountant, and Wil would be Vulcan (though I could see himmore as Mike Whitney but i digress). You are no match for him. the only thing you succeeded in doing was pointing out what a tosser you are to the rest of the world.
But back to the comedy. For the open mic night itself, I'm quite glad I went. I was sitting there thinking, in a couple of years, these guys will be bigger than most of the comedians around now. Well most of them will be. A+ to the guys called Sam, Dave and Daniel (I apologise for not remembering your last names).A quick word to the only female comedian on the circuit that night (whom i was behind 100% in a sign of feminism solidarity until she spoke), talking about abortion rallys in story's with no point, does not a comedian make. Encore: Laughing For A Mate 2Enmore Theatre 26th February 2003First of all congratulations to Matt & Kat from AT fora spectatular effort in putting together the evening. And even though I didn't win the lucky door prize, I still enjoyed myself. But I think someone who did enjoy himself was my father. He has never been to a stand-up show before (except for the occasional taping of GNW back when we were too young to drive). I wasn't sure how he would respond to 3 hours of comedy, full of comedians that he's heard us go on about but had no idea who they were. But there were moments where my sister and I would look at each other then at him and ask him if he was alright, because we thought he was going to have a heart attack (he has a heart condition). But I couldn't think of a better way to go. But onto the show. 1st act were the big guns of comedy. Mikey Robins, Peter Berner, Wil Anderson & Greg Fleet. I thought I had died and gone to comedy heaven. What would have made it perfect was if the acts had been reversed. DAMN BREAKFAST RADIO!!!! but anyway. The problem was maintaining the laughs in the second half without the big names,as i heard alot of people throughout the show say "who the fucks that?" when someone was announced. There were good sets by most of the comics. Good to see that Mikey hasn't lost his touch over the years. Even though he still can't help himself by slagging off Paul McDermott (but then who can).Peter Berner was hysterical (i think it was due to him being pissed). And its a shame that he's not on our screens anymore. Fleety was a bit flat, which is something I never thought I would say. Wil was the same (and yes dad, he is actually a guy). Joel Ozborn was a surprise hit. Impressions don't usually get a lookin these days. Good to see Man Bites God perform (even though it was a bit hard to hear the lyrics over their music, had to buy the cd in the end to know what they were singing about). Low point of the show was definately the cook guy from Pizza (sorry can't remember his name). Being on at the end, you would expect him to be funny. But after a couple of minutes I noticed people looking at their watches. But Tahir after him saved the day. It was a good way to spend an evening, honouring a fine comedian.I just wished I had the chance to see him perform. |
