Cosplay

Eventually, I want to have pictures of people cosplaying as Gentatsu, but I don't know anyone who has! Please please please let me know if you have!

Tips on cosplaying as Gentatsu

Part 1: The Outfit
This is relatively easy. That is, if you can get Japanese clothing. Gentatsu wears a light/sky blue gi over a white undershirt (under-gi? I bet they have a word for it in Japanese). His hakama (samurai pants) are purple with a wide dark stripe at the bottom of the legs and a thinner stripe of the same color over it. His jacket is dark brown. However, you can be lenient with the colors if you must, because half his scenes are at night and colors are distorted.

Part 2: The Hair
This is perhaps the most important part. Gen-san's hair is his most distinctive attribute.

You have to start out with a really long strap, long enough to wrap around your head a couple times. I've heard that this was a real hairstyle, a rebellion against the traditional samurai topknot, so it must be possible. However, your hair (or the hair of your wig) must be the right length. I have a friend who tried to do this but his hair was way too long, and therefore too heavy to stay up. I've thought about it, and I think about to the shoulder blades is right. Maybe even shorter.

Your hair is only pulled up, so the wrapping of the band is the trick. It should go around at least four times- once around the forehead, twice around the head kinda like a headwrap, and once around the ponytail. I haven't tried this yet, but the only started places I see are the wrap behind the ears, or around the forehead. Starting at the wrap behind the ears will result in the tie being in the middle of the forehead, so I suggest trying it this way- The center point should be at your forehead, and then you wrap around your ponytail, then around your head so that the ends are at the nape of your neck, where you can fasten them.

The problem is, I haven't actually tried this yet. It's all supposition. I'll take pictures and let you know when I do try it!

Part 3: The Attitude
Such as it is, anyways. Gentatsu is very soft-spoken and thoughtful. He's only ferocious in battle. If you want to stay in character, try being really nice to everyone. I bet Gentatsu's the type of guy who helps old ladies across the street and all that. He's also mildly philosophical. Be deep.
I actually don't recommend staying in character. You'd be too busy being soft-spoken to have any fun, and that's what cosplaying is for.
