Hyacinthus
Hyacinthus was a handsome, young Greek, and the beloved of Apollo. Zephyrus, the West Wind, was also enamored of the young lad. He was rejected by Hyacinthus in favor of Apollo. One day when Apollo was practicing throwing the discus, the jealous Zephyrus used his west wind to blow the discus off course. It hit Hyacinthus in the head, killing him. From the blood of the slain youth Apollo caused a beautiful flower to grow; the hyacinth.
