2 sticks sweet butter
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon Greek brandy
2 1/2 cups flour, sifted then measured
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 finely chopped walnuts or almonds
48 cloves

Heat
oven to 350 degrees. Soften butter at room temperature. Then beat butter with
eletric mixer until light and fluffy. Sift the 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
into the butter, and cream them. Ad egg yolk, vanilla, and brandy. Sift the
flour and baking powder together. Add the nuts to butter mixture. Then add
flour mixture and stir to form a soft dough. Knead lightly and chill for
several hours or overnight.
Form the dough into balls, using a rounded teaspoon of dough for each cookie,
and place on an ungreased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Place a whole clove in
each cookie. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until light brown.
Roll warm cookies in additional powdered sugar.
Cool and store in airtight containers.
