...How to Connect and Use a Digital Camera.. ..with Webtv/MSNtv..

  • To use a digital camera with Webtv/MSNtv.. a Webtv/MSNtv'Plus' unit is required that has Video IN and OUT capabilities. The digital camera you choose will need to have 'NTSC/PAL' video out..in order for the camera to be compatible with Webtv/MSNtv.

  • The digital camera can be connected directly to a Webtv/MSNtv Plus box or VCR..however using a VCR as a buffer between the Webtv/MSNtv box and the Digital Camera is recommended..

  • Note: The video cable that is used to connect the digital camera to the Webtv/MSNtv box, VCR, or TV should have a Video type plug or RCA connector on the end that connects to the Video NTSC/Pal Video Out..on the camera..the end that connects to the Video In.. on the Webtv/MSNtv..VCR or TV should have a yellow colored video type plug..(always read the cameras instructions before connecting the video cable).

    Note: A Video cable is the only type of cable that can be used to connect a digital camera to Webtv/MSNtv..the Serial (RS232) cables or USB cables are NOT compatible with Webtv/MSNtv.

  • When initially connecting the video cable to the Webtv/MSNtv box or VCR..ALWAYS power off the Webtv/MSNtv box..by completely unplugging all units or if a surge protector is used..then only one switch would need to be turned off when the video cable is initially connected.

  • The video cable can remain connected to the Webtv/MSNtv box or VCR Video IN..socket when the camera is not in use..ALWAYS make sure the camera is in the OFF position..when the cable is reconnected to the Video OUT..socket on the camera.

  • Which ever method is used when connecting a digital camera..would be of personal preference, however taking all necessary precautions, should always be a consideration when hooking up any electronic devices..so as not to cause permanent damage to any of the units!!!

It is extremely difficult to keep up with all of the newer digital cameras and to obtain the information as to which cameras may or may not have the number/icon defects. Therefore the list of Webtv/MSNtv compatible digital cameras will not be updated in the future.
