The following sites have been contacted and they will appreciate your help as part of your Service-Learning experience. 
Please read through the list and choose an organization that interests you.  If you have questions, contact your instructor or the contact persons listed
It is the students' responsibility to make the contact and arrangements for TIME, DATE AND PLACE OF these service-learning activities.

1.  Free Geek Community Technology Center: a nonprofit organization for providing computer technology to the needy.

Opportunity Description:

Free Geek refurbishes computers for low-income families to accommodate the growing technology gap in our culture.  You can learn about computer hardware, Linux, and how to build computers.  Your duties will vary by their need and your experience.  If you work a larger commitment you can get a free computer.

(Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 12-8 pm)

Opportunity Description:

Writing Resource offers opportunities to edit, format, and update existing webpages on seven virtual servers.  These pages deal with literacy,
education, teaching, learning, unions, peace, community activism,  social change, and civic commitment.  Writing Resource offers instruction and guidelines, training, and the opportunity to publish your own work online.  These are valuable community resources and your assistance will be appreciated.
You can learn about computer hardware, software, and , and how to build webpages.  Your duties will vary by their needs and your experience.

3.  Centro Cultural: a nonprofit (US Department of Education Grant)

Your role here will be as a teachers’ aide.  You will help students with classes related to applications software and computer hardware.  This is an adult education program teaching low income Hispanics basic computer skills.

4.  Wattles Boys and Girls Club: Boys and Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area is dedicated to helping all youth reach their maximum potential with special concern for those from disadvantaged circumstances.

Opportunity Description:

The Wattles Club is an Intel Computer Clubhouse, an after school program where young people explore their own interests and become confident learners through the use of technology. The program is designed to help kids gain the tools, problem-solving skills, and confidence using computers.
