As a student, I have always been one of the more high-profile persons around. Most people aren't surprised to see me taking the reins of this or that organization, or so on, and so forth. Since Grade School, I have shown a proficiency in English that has been marked with Declamation Contests, Essay Contests, Extemporaneous Speeches, Oratoricals, and the like. I also earned the reputation of being the go-to guy whenever theological questions arose. Mathematics was a fairly fine subject, but admittedly, not my best. I still preferred self-expression over numbers, hence the course I've taken. Communications and Mass Media were always my favorites.
I have been a member of a good number of organizations from high school. Part and parcel of Marcelle Fabie is serving positions of responsibility in and out of the campus. Since first year to his fourth year in high school, he has been a member of the Bosconian Young Broadcaster's club, the club that runs the program called "Anak... Gabay Mo!", a radio program aired every Sunday in DWXI: winner of a total of three awards in the 1997 and 2000 Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA). I've taken pride in being part of such a hardy and resilient bunch, and I still keep close ties with their current members. This insatiable taste for airing my opinion has led me to try out for the Ateneo Debating Society, as well as be a constant fixture in two prominent FM stations: RX 93.1 and 939 KCFM.
Beginning second year, I joined the Core Of Leaders for Morals in Media, otherwise known as COOL MM. The Media Club furthered my skills in self-expression, as well as my knowledge regarding the workings o Mass Media. A maxim from one of the founders of this organization, Father Eli Cruz, SDB, comes to mind: "Media is neutral ground. It is what you make of media that makes it good or evil."
I have also served as a president of the Bosconian Communicator's Society for an unprecedented two times in my second and my third year of high school. This is otherwise known as the English Club. Through this club, I've managed to hone my skills as a leader by doing better from my first term to my second term. The Communicator's Society has been a gathering of not the best in English, in actuality. It really depended on who the teacher managing the club happened to be, and we were quite happy with the teacher we got in my third year.
In my fourth year, I became a member of the school's Environmental Committee, president of the Young Journalists Association of Mandaluyong, Treasurer of the Philippine Council for Peace and Global Education Junior Associates, the junior S.K. Chairman of Mandaluyong, as well as a councilor in the Youth Week of Mandaluyong, and president of the Comicon club. The latter is a renegade club that has been organized to cater to the unusual hobbies of most students; video games, card collectible games, role playing games, anime, manga, and did I say- video games? This club is now defunct. I guess they just couldn't do without me.... :)
I graduated from High School with four awards to my name: Religion Award, Service Award, Seventh Academic Honors, and, the Journalism Award; the first and last of its kind in Don Bosco Technical College. I earned it by writing for the Bosconian Forum, the Oplan Lingap Bulletin of Mandaluyong, and serving as editor-in-chief of our Yearbook. That night capped off four years of smiles and tears, indeed, as I stood there, relishing the moment of victory... but there's no time to rest on my laurels. First year college is a whole new challenge!
