Flag Description

The flag of the Philippines is made of two equal horizontal bands of blue (top) and red, with a white equilateral triangle based on the hoist side. Centered in the triangle is a yellow sun with eight primary rays, which contain three individual rays. A small yellow five-pointed star is found in each corner of the triangle.

The 3 stars symbolize Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao (the 3 largest islands). The white triangle symbolizes equality and purity. The blue stripe symbolizes peace, truth, and justice. The red stripe symbolizes courage, patriotism, and valor. The light rays on the sun symbolize the first 8 provinces to revolt against Spain. If the country is at peace, the blue stripe is on top.
