New York's Lady President Appeals to the Convention
Delegates, Deputies and Members of the UNIA,
It is our hope and desire that the members of this great association will review the information herein. We pray that the Almighty will grant us the wisdom and strength to move forward in the true spirit of confraternity based upon the constitution on which our great association was founded.
Over the past year, we have worked tirelessly to continue to bring the UNIA-ACL back to the forefront of the New York Community. We have made tremendous strides in this area as many individuals are impressed and excited, anticipating the work of our division and how it serves the Negro people of our locale. Unfortunately, we have had to contend with much harassment and frustration instigated by certain members of the Parent Body. Still our spirits remain determined and we will not put down the mantle of the RED BLACK and GREEN nor go quietly as some would have us to do.
In all that has occurred we only ask that our voices be heard. We know for certain that information is being suppressed and certain matters are being discouraged from discussion. We find this to be very strange and certainly not in keeping with the governing structure of our Association. Every attempt has been made to have our voices locked out of this convention; from expelling two of our officers as well as sending letters to our members instructing them not to attend the Convention unless invited specially by the Parent Body. Furthermore the 1st APG and 404 President without absolutely no reason or justification was told by the PB that he had been placed on medical leave and was not to attend the Convention. A letter was even sent to his wife asking for her assistance in keeping her husband from attending the convention, to which she responded with anger and disgust.
Our division’s charter was revoked unconstitutionally without reason, so as to prevent us from appointing delegates to the 48th Convention. After sending formal grievances to our High Council as well as Division Presidents, we realized that information was still being suppressed from the members of the association. We feel we have been abandoned by the family we have loved and labored for in earnest, but we will fight for that which is dearest to us. We have used our website the Negro World to cry out to those we feel can rescue us from the guillotine that threatens the life of our division.
Our Division has been the victim of gross injustice perpetuated against us by our very own Parent Body. We ask the Convention to hear our voices and pull our great association up from the jaws of insanity.
Fraternally,
Tiffany Newton
Lady President
