PS2 Fuse

The PS2 is an ordinary fuse that can be purchased at any radio shack in the US these fuses work by a simple principle there is a thin wire inside the glass window of the fuse and it will break when too much voltage passes through it this protects your PS2 from blowing out your mainboard during a power surge etc. Here is a quick way to tell if your fuse is blown out but first i will highlight where the fuse is on your PS2 to get to it you must first remove your power source to find out how to remove it click here to go to how to remove your power supply. Anyway once the power source is removed there are two kinds of power sources if you have a version 1, 2, or 3 it will look like this (pictured below) You will notice that i have highlighted the fuse on each one of these power sources with yellow box.

or if you have a PS2 version 4, 5 or 6. It will look like this (pictured below) You will notice I have highlighted the fuse with a yellow box in the picture below.

Now that the fuse has been located I can tell you how to remove it just grasp it with one hand in the middle section and pull it straight up you may have to use a little force. If it won't come up easily take a small screwdriver and pry it off the two pieces of metal that is holding in down. Once the fuse is out check it if you can't see the wire in the fuse due to it being black inside the glass the fuse is definitely blown or if you can see inside and the little wire is broken it is very hard to see especially if you have bad eyesight. A quick way to test a fuse is to buy a continutity tester you can pick one up cheap at your radio shack just ask the man at the counter and he will get one for you. Once you have one touch the wire on one side of the fuse and the continutity tester on the other if it donesn't light up your fuse is blown if it does your fuse is fine. However if your fuse is blown you must pick up a new one with the same voltage on one of the metal sides of the fuse there will be a voltage number (for example 1.5) you must make sure that you get the right voltage if you get a voltage to low the fuse will blow instantly and if too high your PS2 can blow out if another power surge occurs due to the fuse letting in more current than it should. If you have trouble finding the voltage don't worry its there just have someone at Radio Shack or any other store assist you. Once you have the new fuse just snap it in and reassemble your PS2. (Note if your PS2 constantly blows out fuses this means you have an uneven voltage in your house this could result from a malfunctioing circut breaker or too high voltage fuse in your service box try connecting you PS2 to a surge protector the ones used for computers or consult a qualified electrician)
