HURLING BALLS
Hurling is a popular Irish sport. Some players wear helmets and other
protective clothing like shinguards and gloves. An ash wood stick called hurl
or cam'n and a leather ball called sliothar are used to play the
game. The length of the hurl is determined by the heighth of the hips of
the player.
The most important sports day is the All-Ireland tournament in Croke Park in Dublin,
which takes place every first sunday of September. Hurling is related to hockey.
Is is the oldest field sport in Europe. It was probably introduced in Ireland by
the Celts.
