May 10
- Propsect VFW (Prospect, CT)
Nothingstar.,
A Thousand Falling Skies, Left and Right, Deadwait, Doublethink, Garaganuta Soul
All hail Mexfest!!! But I wanna know.. where was the martial arts exhibit?! Psha! Nothingstar did very good, as always. The weather was beautiful and the mexicans were thriving. ATFS did amazing as well.. I actually didnt mind the first band, Left and Right.. they had this comforting, country/rock sound. They gave me one of their demo cds, very nice guys.. Deadwait was terribly nu metal. We didnt stick around for G-soul.
May 3
- American Legion (Orange, CT)
Nothingstar.,
Sacrosic, Zeller, Downfall, In Progress, Downstairs, Cagemouth
Omg, insane fun.. Nothingstar's CD release party thing.. Cagemouth opened, theyre OK. Musically, theyre really really talented, and the singer's scream isnt half bad, it's just his singing.. i think if they got a new lead singer, who actually SANG, and had him do backup.. wow. But yea, Zeller was amazing as well.. more throwing up on stage lol. They always put on a great show, though. D0wnfall, they definitely improved since the last time i saw them.. which was a long time ago. They got faster, harder, and more diverse.. I like them a whole lot. I didnt see much of Downstairs or In Progress... which sucks because it was matt's last show with them :o( But from past experience I can tell you Downstairs was proly OK, I was never too into them. The lead singer is scares me, and for some reason gives off that "dont talk to me im a rockstar" vibe. ::shrugs:: And nothingstar, just.. wow. One of the more intense sets ive ever seen them play, mostly because they had an hour and played all of their best songs. Just a really really good night in general.
April 26 - Waterbury VFW (Waterbury, CT)
Nothingstar., Tripset,
Rijit, Among Shattered Dreams, Submit
One of the best shows, if not the best, ever. I got there right as Rijit was ending, so I didnt get to see much of them :o( But im sure they did awesome! Submit was surprisingly good... suprisingly un-Nu-metal. Tripset wasnt lying when they said theyd changed their sound.. theyre definitely better than what they were! And major props to those guys, theyve been working so hard and changing shit around, etc and it hoenstly shows. They added a new gutiarist, changed their sound, wrote new stuff.. the crowd was definitely feeling it. ASD sounded the best Ive ever heard them, they seriously get ebtter every time. Nothingstar's set was nothing short of amazing.. which was totally unexpected because, i mean come on.. it was just a free show and everyone was dying of the humidity and just wanted to get out. but pretty much the entire audience was totally feeling the music, its such an amazing feeling when you see everyone singing along and dancing and going crazy. it just felt like a time to let loose and have fun, be with friends and go crazy to some good music. and i almost died so thats a plus. lol a big thank you to chris1 for launching his crotch into my face and chantz for breaking my ribs. oh yea, and jack for falling down like 52 times. it made the night.
April
5 - Polish Political Club (Berlin, CT)
This show was soo much fun! It was the first time I ever saw my good friend Aaron's band, Rijit. I was honestly surprised/impressed by how good they were. Definitely on the right track.. keep up the good work guys! [And just a little sidenote to Aaron: its OK to drop stuff every once in a while! it was core! lol not us.. love you lil bro.] I really didnt feel Downstairs at all, it was just like the last time I saw them [at Champs]. Eh. And as we all know, Danielle LOVES to see Sacrosic, ASD, and Nothingstar together! Lol they all had amazing performances and ahh, just fun. I never felt the music so much as I did that night. The only bad thing about this show, really, was that the place was sooo small.
March 22
- Tiffany Room (Bristol, CT)
[AIDs Benefit Show] Nothingstar.,
Strained Existence, Among Shattered
Dreams, Last Element
On top of being a beautiful night weather-wise, this show was so much fun. The only suckie thing was that Nothingstar had to go on second, and ASD first. Why put the best in the beginning? A bunch of clueless 14 year olds with blue wigs and fake piercings were running the show, so I guess that explains it. Anyways, ASD got there a little late and could only play 3 or 4 songs, but they were their usual awesome selves. The crowd totally felt them. This was one of my favorite Nothingstar shows. Im not sure why, maybe it was cuz all of our friends [old and new] were there, and the pit was huge and Daryl's so sexy and.. and..
Didnt stay for Strained Existence or Last Element.
March 21
- Disabled Veterans' Hall (Meriden,
CT)
Nothing
It was a pleasant surprise to arrive and see Newandyke going on, I didnt even know they were playing! I guess they were thrown on the bill pretty last minute, and one of their lead singers, Marco, couldnt make it. Nonetheless, they did amazing. They get better everytime. What I love the most about these guys is how much they get into their performance. Nothingstar was beautiful as always, the pit for them was pretty huge and everyone seemed to really feel their sound. Building a factory was amazing! Ive been hearing nothing but good things about these guys [mostly from my good buddies in My Hopes Dashed], and I finally got to see it for myself. They were just mind-blowing.. extremely talented and motivated guys. I didnt see much of Folly or Smackin Isaiah's set, I had to leave a little earlier than I wanted :o( There was also another band on before Newandyke [I think].. I missed them too.
March 15
- Webster Theatre (Hartford, CT)
Nothingstar.,
40 Below Summer, Changing Skin, Flu, Dignify
Nothingstar's first ever big Webster show! Soooo exciting. And of course, they lived up to everyone's expectations and delivered an awesome performance. They went on second to last, right before 40 Below.. how great is that?! Flu and Dignify were OK, nothing great. Nu-metal mania... Changing Skin had a very very good stage presentation, impressive. Really audience-inclusive and upbeat. 40 Below... I didnt really watch them, and they arent really my type of music.
March 7
- Planet Bean (Wallingford, CT)
Nothingstar,
Strained Existence, Zeller, Clokseed
Pretty nice show. Maybe Nothingstar's last ever at Planet Bean? I hope not!! But if it was, there's no regrets- except Sacrosic was suposed to play. But Brian as arm issues. :o) hah. So yea, Zeller did amazing as usual. Theyre always so different and.. different. But in a good way! I wasnt too into Clokseed.. ::shudder:: Im telling ya, man.. 80's revival. Strained Existence was surprisingly decent, much better than Fadeaway (lead singer's former band). Much improvement going on there. And hooray!!.. it was kelly's first show!! Lol. Luv ya, kel. :oP
February
16 - The PAL (Fall River, Mass.)
Nothingstar,
Dark Gleaming, Cagemouth, Sacrosic
(there were two more bands, but i didnt see one of them and i dont remember the name of the other.)
pretty good show. i have never been to any shows in Mass before, although everyone always raves about em. definitely alot of kids up there- it was a fun time. so yea, dark gleaming.. there was something about them that i loved, and something about them that made me cringe. i think their singer should change his style just a little bit, and everything will be perfect. but yea, they were OK. it was especially nice when Daryl (from nothingstar) got up there and sang "Piano" with them.. impressive. Nothingstar was really good, very animated and crazy. And it was one of Sacrosic's better shows, they definitely rocked.. and I take back my "keyboard fad" comment.. it actually makes their sound that much better. I even think they should put Maria in more songs, rather than at the beginning of a few. Most bands can't pull off the whole keyboard thing, but they sure can. Why did Cagemouth headline? I thought they were terrible and the lead singer should never take his shirt off in public again. Seriously. And the other band that I dont remember their name, I dont know.. they were OK. Yea... They were that bad.
February
15 - Planet Bean (Wallingford, CT)
Nothingstar, Among
Shattered Dreams, Sacrosic
I love this lineup. Everyone was all "blabla the same 3 bands!" but i see it as a reminder of who's the best of the best.. so shutup. sacrosic did really good, i remember at first i didnt really like them, but they have improved soo much within the past few months.. i actually looked forward to seeing them the next night in mass. ASD, same thing.. i think they started taking the whole band thing more seriously.. but i dont care what the cause was, they are freakin awesome now. and nothingstar- how could you NOT love them? they played porn during their set, man.. they have an amazing sound, theyre all great guys, and they are freakishly creative.. lol. but yes, an all-around good show with lots of old buddies.
January
24 - The Beanery (Fairfield, CT)
Nothingstar, Among
Shattered Dreams, In Progress, Lesson
Eh, this show was OK. Nothingstar just gets better every time, what can I say? But i swear I smelled something burning during their set, ashli did too! Lol, oh well... nothing blew up, so its all good.. ASD was also very good, Dan finally started as their bassist. And [even though he hates me for reasons unknown], I think he gives alot to ASD's awesome sound. Both Lesson & In Progress' sounds are kind mixed in my head, they sounded sort of the same to me. But then again I am writing this review a couple weeks after the show. I just remember not being too into either of them.
January
14 - The Zoo (Waterbury, CT)
For.her.i.can.be.a.hero,
A thousand falling skies, Newandyke,
Sacrosic, The Breathing Process, The
Acacia Strain
Really really good show. I left before Sacrosic and for.her went on :o( Hey, it was a school night! Lol. Anyways I was blown away by The Acacia Strain as well as the Breathing Process.. both were sooo freakin amazing. I heard of both before but never saw them.. but I was def happy with how they sounded. A Thousand Falling Skies was really good, of course, but their set was a little short. I love the ATFS! Lol. Newandyke has such a different sound (not in a bad way), and it definitely 'grows on you' after a show or two. I'd love to see them again ;-)
January
4 - The Zoo (Waterbury, CT)
Lucas, My
Hopes Dashed, Mouth on Tailpipe,
Scenes from October
SFO was AMAZING, i was totally impressed.. and it was a pleasant surprise, cuz i didnt know they were playing. I love bands with unusual setups, like SFO has 2 lead singers that dont play any instruments.. that rules. But yes, despite the shitty PA, they ruled. Mouth on Tailpipe was good, but not really my style. A little too 'loud.'
My Hopes Dashed, woo, what a buncha hot emo boys! Haha but yea, they rocked out as well. And to think, it all started in Ashli's backyard, at our party. Lol. OF COURSE, Lucas really "wow"-ed the crowd.. (hey that rhymes). Besides the jumping-off-amps and humping each other and just going NUTS in general, they covered 2 Poison the Well songs.. then.. OH MAN.. the best- They covered "Siberian Kiss" (by glassjaw), with Daryl from Nothingstar. That was freaking amazing.
So much fun, an all around cool night.
December
27 - Champs' Sports Bar (Waterbury, CT)
Sacrosic, Nothingstar.,
Downstairs, Ether Binge, Severance
An all-right show. I mean Nothingstar had a new song (which is awesome), and they changed the lyrics to 'Talk Down Once,' and dedicated it to Rob (from Mistral). That's why I love these boys, theyre all about the love. Sacrosic was good.. I dont know they sound the same to me most of the time. And what is with the keyboard fad? Jees.
Ether Binge sucks and so did Severance. Most Nu-metal in general sucks. Sorry guys. I was outside for Downstairs (that sounds funny), they sounded OK but a little off.
December 21 - Hungaria
n Hall (Wallingford, CT)THIS show was one of the best. The only thing that sucked was Nothingstar went on first, and my ride got there a little late (damn me and my lack of a license!) So I just caught the end of their set. It was my first time at the Hungarian Hall, but I really really liked it. It actually had a STAGE! Lol.. but yeah from what I saw, Nothingstar did awesome as usual.
Sacrosic, the same. But still good. Me Vs. Machine was actually surprisingly good.. like industrial rapcore? Lol I dont know what they were but I was feelin it. Evolve sucks.. the lead singer thinks he's George Michael or something (in the sense that he thinks hes famous, of course.. Lol).
Zeller, OH MAN. Where do I begin?! Their set was amazing and the best I've seen in a while, but at the same time it was disgusting. Bazal puked everywhere on stage, including Greg's shoulder (the bassist). Then a bunch of girls got up on stage and started stripping. Woo. THEN they got everyone up on stage to sing the hardcore version of Rudolf the Red nose Reindeer. That was.. um.. cute.
December
20 - Planet Bean (Wallingford, CT)
Sitdown Strike, The Ass
Arrived Beautiful and Most Brave, The Bombsite Boys, Hopeless Dregs of Humanity
I really only ventured out to this show to see SDS, who were awesome! Their sound is so different, like the locust meets finch. lol go figure. anyway yea, i didnt really see much of the other bands..
so yea.
December
14 - The Zoo (Waterbury, CT)
Lucas, Newandyke, Down
to Zero, Last Element
Lucas' first CT show! Woo! Definitely a good experience. Last Element was good, but really, what's with the keyboards? It's like 80s revival. Idk, it bothers me.. anyway, Newandyke seemed like they had almost NO idea what they were doing, but they were good at it nonetheless! They had like 3 songs lol. Gotta love it.
Down to Zero freaks me out. I dont know why, maybe it was the 'flock of seagulls' hair the lead singer had going on. ::Shudder:: Anyway..... yes, Lucas rocked OUT!!! They seriously left most of us in awe at how amazing they were, just.. ah. They definitely need to come back, and soon!
December
6 - Planet Bean (Wallingford, CT)
Nothingstar., Sacrosic,
Among Shattered Dreams
Ive seen all of these bands quite a few times, but they are indeed the best of the best. So it's all good. I'm running out of things to say about em!
I love you!
November
30 - Waterbury VFW (Waterbury, CT)
D0wnfall, Nothingstar.,
Postman Syndrome, A thousand
falling skies, Sacrosic,
Among
Shattered Dreams
I had never heard d0wnfall before this night, but they were pretty cool. Postman Syndrome were relly really good.. they had a totally different sound than i expected, kinda indie.. lol, ya dig? ATFS was amazing, this was (sadly) the frist time i have seen them in a realllly long time.. they have improved so much. Sacrosic & ASD, good as always. And Nothingstar, amazing as always.
November
1 - Newtown Teen Center (Newtown, CT)
Nothingstar., Redchester,
Dioxide, Tripset,
Shattersphere
Rechester was pretty cool, but the Sum 41 cover of Fat Lip...I dont know...lol..I'm not really a big fan of Sum41 anyway...the lead singer was super hot though! Haha maybe I just have a thing for Eminem look-alikes (he was dressed as Eminem).
Shattersphere, I really dont like them. I'm really sorry guys, if you ever happen to come across this and read it, but what are ya gonna do. You cant please everyone. Im not really into the whole Creed/Metal/Keyboard thing they got goin on. the guys are very nice though, so I wont go on with my verbal abuse..lol..
Dioxide was OK, not as good as usual for some reason. Maybe it's cuz I've seen them alot in the past month or so and I'm getting sick of hearing them deface women with "My Bitch," who knows? The lead singers Cypress Hill-ish voice can get kind of obnoxious after a while too, as I'm sure most people will agree. He should try more "normal singing" than that high-pitched squealing shit all the time. Ill move on now before I get my ass kicked by a bunch of their [cheerleader] fans..
Tripset seems as if they just arent as into the music as they were, I dont know about everyone else, but I'm getting kind of sick of the "Eye for an Eye" cover, even though it is like a tradition for them to play it. This band also has the most groupies I've ever seen in my entire life, boys AND girls. But thats cool though, lots of support.. once again, Nothingstar had the whole crowd on their feet, singing and screaming and dancing and....Nothingstar's got it all- dedication, heart, hot guys, and most of all, LOVE.
October
26 -
Waterbury VFW (Waterbury, CT)
Last element,
Sacrosic, Among
Shattered Dreams, D0wnfall, Critical
Limit, Nothingstar., Ether Binge
Me and Ally got there a little late, and ended up missing Ether Binge & Last Element :o( Sacrosic has gotten surprisingly good...usually when a lead singer leaves and the band is left to their own devices, the whole thing goes to shit...but i guess Alex (the old lead singer) was really just self-glorified..he wasnt the whole band, as a lot of people think, he made himself out to be so great. psh..
anyway, yea as ALWAYS Nothingstar FUCKING ROCKED OUT! It was seriously maybe the BEST show I have ever been to, it totally resotred my faith in the "scene," which has been withering lately. ASD put on an awesome show, and I know every guy in there was checking out Ricky's hot ass in that leather skirt. Lol..Critical Limit was good too, but I think most people focused on John's outfit- or lack of one. (For those of you who werent there, he wore nothin but a sock...Ill leave the rest up to the imagination..) --And I missed Ashli! She had to work :o(
September
28th - PNA Club (New Britain, CT)
Nothingstar., Sacrosic,
Among Shattered Dreams, Mistral, Tripset
I only got to see Tripset & Nothingstar at this one, but that's good enough for me! Nothingstar gets better every time i see them (yes, the whole TWO times i've seen them. shut the hell up.) Tripset - eh, I'm running out of comments, I've seen them so many times- they rock, of course, but they need some new stuff. ::ashli's gonna beat me for that one::
September
27th - Newtown Teen Center (Newtown, CT)
Nothingstar.,
Dioxide, Tripset,
Shattersphere
meh - my ride got stuck in traffic, and we ended up missing nothingstar's set! I did get to see part of shattersphere, dioxide and tripset, however. I don't know what to say about shattersphere, really- I mean I only saw a few minutes of it, and there was a keyboard. I don't usually dig the whole keyboard thing.
dioxide did amazing, of course. they rock! i cant wait to go to their nov 1st show. tripset did OK- not their best performance, but definitely a good one.
September
22nd - Club h2o (Waterbury, CT)
Final Round of Battle of the Bands: Dioxide
v. Tripset
Dioxide was surprisingly good. Very Cypress Hill/Scream-ish..I liked it alot. They had the place rockin, but almost no comp for Tripset - they had the whole place on their feet, screaming, singing, moshing..I even saw Little Nick in the air! Awesome job, although TS totally got screwed out of their prize money. The experience was well worth it.
September
21st - Waterbury VFW (Waterbury, CT)
Nothingstar., Evolve,
Zeller, Last
Element, Critical Limit, Golgotha
Nothingstar did unbelievable, even when the PA started to smoke! Seriously, though, they were so good I wanted to cry. Daryl is so into the music, while Chris 1 & 2, Ryan, & Jimcore make an awesome instrumental team. You can tell they've been working super hard and practicing faithfully- major props, guys.
As usual, Last Element rocked the place. No offence, though, the fire trick is gettin a little old. It never fails to be at least a little cool, but try something new, guys! I loved it when Jer got right in the pit, on the ground, and sang - you guys never cease to amaze. Rock on.
Sorry to say, I didn't realy watch
Zeller (partly because of the whole thong thing the drummer had goin on...lol),
and I was outside for Golgotha, Critical Limit, & Evolve's set. Sorry guys,
next time, I swear!
