The Story
I've liked Brand New for quite a few
months now, and I just recently started getting into Taking Back Sunday. These
bands share more than just a style, however.. I've been noticing [more and more]
that some of their lyrics are quite similar. Coincidence? I think not.
(Actually, it probably is.. I just wanted an excuse to make a new page.)
The Evidence
***I
don't know what's up with the last one, if it was on purpose or what.. it's just realllly
weird..***
Taking Back Sunday | Brand New |
"Lost
and Found" ..bring you back to me / embrace me and make me sure / embrace me and make me secure. |
"The No Seatbelt Song" so take me and break me / and make me strong like you
|
"There's No 'I' in Team" and if we go down we go down
together / best friends means, best friends means... |
"Seventy
Times 7"
you left the frays from the ties you severed / when you say best friends means friends forever |
"There's
No 'I' in Team"
i've got a
twenty dollar bill that says youre up late nights starting fist fights
versus fences in your backyard. |
"Mix
Tape"
ive got a twenty dollar bill that says no one's ever seen you without makeup / youre always madeup. |
"There's
No 'I' in Team"
is that what
you call tact / i swear youre as subtle as a brick in the small of my back
/ so lets end this call and end this conversation / there's nothing
worse. |
"Seventy
Times 7"
is that what you call tact / youre as subtle as a brick in the small of my back / so lets end this call, and end this conversation. |
The Research
Well, as far as I can see,
Brand New & Taking Back Sunday don't share any members, and none of them are
brothers. But Aaron
tells me that Jesse's (lead singer of Brand New) girlfriend cheated on him with
Adam (lead singer of Taking Back Sunday). Jesse then wrote "Seventy times
7" in response to Adam's "There's No 'I' in Team". Another one of my private sources (lol, Jim)
found the following quote
from Jesse (about the similiarity between that last evidence thing):
"Me and John from Taking Back Sunday. He's been my best friend since 3rd grade, literally. He taught me to play guitar and we've been writing music together and playing songs together for as long as I can possibly remember ... those lyrics were just conduv. That's exactly what it was. It was just conduv and ended up in both songs because a situation that happened. We both wrote songs about it from a different stand point and we just kind of stole each others lyrics."
The
Conclusion
So
Jesse's statement ties into Aaron's story; the 'situation' that he refers to would probably be
his girlfriend cheating on him with Adam.. and seeing as Jesse's best friend
(who he shares music and lyrics with) is in the same band as Adam, they both
used that same quote in their bands' songs. And, so.. I guess that ruins the mystery of
it all.
