The second part of our history has to do with Jacques my brother. 18 years after meeting Raven a strange madness seized Europe. Than the modern day "vampire" killings started. Mostly men killed in a ritual style. committees were formed and it was a very hard time for all Carpathians. During this time Jacques was lost to us. We all tried to reach him through our shared mental paths but could not. We thought Jacques dead Little did we suspect the truth buried alive and suffering with multiple wounds Jacques was alive but his mind was as that of an animal. He contacted a human doctor his lifemate Shea O'Halloren. She found him seven years later but he was no longer the Jacques any of us knew. Byron was the first to smell his scent on the woman when he saw her alone. She was of our race but unlike us for her hair was red. We tracked them and found Jacques had taken this woman...Shea as a lifemate More animal than man at times Shea was his only anchor in the world. The only thing keeping the monster at bay. Shea came as a surprise to us all when she told us that Rand was her father. Although Jacques was so hurt in mind this was a time of hope as Raven, my love, my life was pregnant with my child. A girl that was destined to be Gregori's lifemate. Soon however we were in danger by the same assassins that had plagued us before. They captured Byron and submitted him to the same torture they had inflicted on Jacques. We saved him but at a terrible price. It was a trap as the humans went to harm our women. Nonetheless we prevailed and discovered that Rand had betrayed us all he had delivered us to the human assassins. He sought Jacques out but Jacques stronger than before disposed of Rand and went to his lifemate. Jacques found the light to his dark and although both he and Shea were raw and still not ready to try to have children the promise of a future for our race was clear. We would face the world with new hope for the future!  All events in this history lesson took place in Dark Desire.
