Shea is a DR. confronted by two men who try to abduct her because they think she's a vampire she escapes and travels all over. She feels Jacques pain but thinks him dead. Soon something pulls her to the Carpathian Mountains and Jacques. He attacks her but she nonetheless works to save him. Finally he realizes that she isn't one of those who betrayed him.

She takes care of him and he her as he realizes that she's his lifemate. He doesn't realize that she knows nothing about lifemates when he binds her to him. When Mikhail & Co. find Jacques he is wary of all of them even after Gregori heals him. Shea is still scared of love and the weakness in it. The weakness her mother displayed

Shea at first rebels at the idea of being Jacques lifemate but she knows Jacques needs her and sticks to his side. Even when he inadvertently hurts her. Both Shea and Jacques were hurt by the world but together faced it. Jacques never leaves Shea's mind, as she is his anchor to reality.
