I see in you my mother's eyes,
My daughter's eyes,
Large family ties,
And the cries
Of loss.
But I gain from you
A spiritual divine.

Banana trees from years before
Now planted across these shores
Tall and strong,
Bear fruit,
And bear Truth.
Dirty dishes, sampayan, handaan...
Hands coarse from labor
From men's neglect.
But that's retrospect.
Now. Now the test is the double day,
So like Lola, you pray and pray.
Silly boys can't stay, they just compensate.
Their rockets can't rock it like you do.
You and I understand there is something great,
With that wisdom, you illuminate.

Sacred secrets whispered by tribal elders.
With the ancient tribal chieftains,
Vast and sweeping rice plateaus
Bow for maiden water basins.

In you I see discovery
From hardship to recovery.
I dig your essence
Never shallow, so I dig deeper...
The lesser, they can't touch your surface,
Staying caked faced:
A slave to cell phones,
Low rides to satisfy drones.
Dishwasher safe.
No more clothes hanging out to dry,
No more fish to fry,
No more fiestas, lovely family feasts,
The greater of you has died.
All this obsolete.

But you, your eyes profess a sweeter future
All this you radiate cause you nurture.
The past's toil, the past's bliss
Your presence is mature,
The essence still exists.
Residual is your beauty
Which caresses eternity
Keeping promising roots
Which I dig, never shallow.

So help me plant the seeds in this land so desolate
Where royalty gets no respect.
Seek the genuine brother to bloom,
Where the second shift doesn't loom.
See how imminent generations kiss your feet.

A flourishing harvest for God to reap.
An ancient garden secluded,
Yet brand new
Till the chosen found you.
You got all the right goods.
A spiritual sista you are.
Strong minded, and strong willed
Well rounded by far
And well developed
In hostile environment
As a fruit ripens in soil
Even when foreign sent.

Cause in your eyes it's evident
The coasts unite as one
All states change- you hold it down-
Now it's an island in the sun.

Here, many miles in time
Now your tender hands
Have adapted to these lands.
But your majesty never altered
You're a Queen
While others have faltered.

florence nightingale Florence Nightingale
She was considered to be the founder of modern nursing. She took care of the wounded British soldiers in Turkey during the Crimean War of 1854. The war's death rate was significantly lowered because she made sure to keep hospitals as clean as possible -- a first during those times. She also published some articles on hospital sanitation (Mary Grace Oro, SFC-Chicago). See a Web site dedicated to her. (She was a choice, but again, we didn't get a chance to blow her picture up, hehe.)
janet jackson Janet Jackson
She revoluntionalized the whole woman things for artists. She's always tryin new things. She expresses a lot of reality issues in her music -- her Rhythm Nation album was by far the best album because to me it expressed a lot of feeling (Aimee del Mundo, YFC-University of Illinois at Chicago).
